3. Theodor Seuss
Geisel, more
commonly
known as Dr
Seuss, was
born on the 4th
of March 1904.
He was inspired to write children’s books, when
his mother sang him lullabies that rhymed to
make him fall to sleep. In his child hood he
often got picked on because his mother and
father were German immigrants. During the
First World War they lost a lot of money but
worked hard to get it back.
4. He went to Oxford University in
England, but he didn’t like it so
he dropped out and toured
Europe. One good thing
happened there though, he met
his wife.
5. He started drawing
cartoons and in world
war two he made an
animated film. From
there, he drew cartoons
for a book company,
leading to his own first
book called And To
Think I Saw It On
Mulberry Street. Once
he wrote The Cat in the
Hat he became famous.
After that he wrote 60
more children’s literacy
books. His favourite
book was The Butter
Battle.
6. Now his books are so famous they’re being
turned into movies. Dr Seuss received many
awards for is writing, including 2 Academy
awards, 2 Emmy awards and a Peabody award.
Dr Seuss died in 1991 he was 87 years old after
a life of joy writing about things he loved.
