2.) Final Summary & Death Mask due- __________________
Task # 1:
You will research the assigned pharaoh and write a summary explaining all of the information that
you learned. We will spend time in Seneca’s library using various books and internet sites to help you
gain a vast amount of information on your pharaoh. It is expected that you will do additional research at
home, at your public library, or during your lunch period or after school to complete your project.
Your summary MUST include information gathered in response to the following questions. Any
additional information that you learn about your pharaoh should be included in your summary as well.
REMEMBER: You must clarify that your research is accurate by checking multiple sources for information.
Questions:
1. Your introductory topic sentenceshould include your pharaoh’s name(spelling counts), as well
as an overview of what your summary is about. Refer to examples discussed in class.
2. When did he/she rule? (From what year to what year?)
3. What is your pharaoh most remembered for in history? What makes him/her famous? Be sure
to explain this answer using details. It should be more than just one sentence.
4. Who were the other members of your pharaoh’s family? (and if possible, what were they
known for?)
5. Research at least3 additional interesting facts about your pharaoh. Explain these facts; show
in your explanation what makes them so interesting. Again, these should be more than just
one sentence.
6. If possible, explain how your pharaoh affected the lives of the Egyptians that he/she was
ruling? Was this pharaoh liked or disliked? Why did the people feel this way about your
pharaoh?
Reminders:
Do NOT plagiarize (copy exact words from an article, book, internet site, etc.)Paraphrase the
information by putting it into your own words.
Do not say “I” or “my” in your summary. This is an informative writing assignment, so it is written
in the 3rd POV, and your opinions should not be included.
Do not simply rewrite the questions in your summary. For example, do not write: “My pharaoh
was…the symbols were…the pharaoh is remembered because…the pharaoh affected the Egyptians
because…” Vary your sentence structure to make your paragraph summary interesting to
read. The questions are only a guide.
As always, when writing your summary, include a proper heading and indent the first sentence.
You should include the following in your paragraph format:
1. A “grabbing”introductory topic sentence.
2. Sentences to make up the body of your paragraph – vary your sentence structure and back
up what you are saying by explaining and using details.
3. A closing sentence to wrap up your writing.
Proofread your summary for spelling and grammatical errors.
Cite your references at the end of your summary, as discussed with Mrs. Keith. You must have at
least 3 sources
Refer to your rubric to make sure you have included all necessary parts of the project.
Task #2:
You will create a death mask for your pharaoh. Using the template provided in class and the
knowledge gained from your research, you will create a death mask to be handed in with your written
summary. You will not be assessed on your artistic ability; however, you are responsible for putting forth
your best effort in creating the death mask. It must accurately reflect your pharaoh and be completed in
color.
