October Newsletter
1. October is here and we are so excited for the fun fall events we have planned! We also start our ELI trips this month and we
are looking forward to starting those back up again. If you have not already turned in your Parent Survey from NAEYC,
please take the time to do that ASAP. We want to make sure every voice is heard as we start planning for next year. We are
having student pictures Wednesday, October 19, at 8:30am. Families are welcome to get sibling or family pictures in
addition. You will receive proofs of the pictures and an order form that day. Please let me know if you are interested in
sibling or family pictures so I can adjust our times if we need to do so.
Happy Fall, Jeni Hoover

Family Fun Fall Activity:
Pumpkin Pie Play Dough
Here’s what you need to make Pumpkin Pie Play Dough:
• 15 oz. can of pumpkin
• 3 Tbsp. pumpkin pie spice
• 2-3 cups corn starch
Mix together the canned pumpkin and the pumpkin pie spice.
Slowly add the corn starch, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after
each addition.
The amount of corn starch you need will vary depending on the
canned pumpkin you use. Different brands have different
moisture contents — the can we used took 2 1/2 cups.
The play dough is moist and smushy — it’s the perfect fall
sensory activity!
Kendal Intergenerational News:
With the start of our school year, our Intergen programs have
flourished! We interact daily with our grandfriends at Kendal.
Last week we celebrated the end of summer by having ice cream
cones with our grandfriends and hearing the classic story Caps
For Sale. We continue to make culinary wonders on Monday
afternoons as we explore the flavors of fall; making pumpkin
muffins and apple treats. Feel welcome to join us Thursday,
October 6, at 3:15 in the Langston cafeteria for a pumpkin
story, treat, and craft with our grandfriends.
2. From the KELC Teachers:
From the Classroom:
Our new school year is off to a great start. Lots of new friendships have already been made and laughter and smiles are
plentiful. We are so happy to have two college students with us. Amanda is doing an art class with the children on Thursday
and Beulah joins us on Thursdays and Fridays. Our Grandparents’ Day was a huge success, and we were so happy to have
such a great turnout. Our Kendal Campus always offers a great deal of learning experiences, and this week we had the
opportunity of watching as Farmers Pond was drained and the fish were transported to another pond. It really was a great
experience. The gentlemen from Mad Science did an awesome job of explaining the process. Fall is one of our favorite times
of the year. It brings so many opportunities to use our five senses. Our trip to pick apples is a good example as the children
picked and ate apples, ran in a hay maze, and jumped in a corn pit.
