 Children need access to materials in numerous activity centers; one out of many activity
centers will be discuss in this PowerPoint is Dramatic Play.

3.  What materials should be used in dramatic play center? How many materials
are needed in the center to give children enough variety and depth
experiences?
For Toddlers:
1. Role plays (2 genders dress-ups)
2. House-Keeping equipment, furniture
3. Pots, Utensils, Play foods
4. A total of 5 dolls, 3 different races
5. Animals/Puppets
6. Toy Phone/Building Blocks
For Infants:
1. Soft animals/Puppets
2. Different races of dolls

4.  What to expect in dramatic play center? What is the teacher role?
 In the dramatic play center, role plays are discovery by children's
imagination and creatively.
 Allows children to pretend- inventing a symbol for a real object.
 Allows children to invent stories; practice language differences.
 Allows the children to experience social/emotions while
communicating to others. Also asking and answering questions
according to the role the child is playing.
 Allows the children to use cognitive skills and collaborate with
others. Promotes thinking and acting out stories.
AND TEACHERS CAN PRETEND WITH THE CHILDREN TOO. The
teacher's role in dramatic play is crucial!

5.  The teacher’s role is to provide interesting, real materials and planned space that reinforce our
learning objectives.
 Show the children how to talk, act out ideas and appropriate behavior to use
 Provide children with new ideas and problems to act out and dialogue to use.
 Provide verbal guidance and reinforce children’s positive behaviors.

 To ensure the most diversity in dramatic play center; cultures, ages, ability, race, and
gender needs to be involved and access within children play.

7.  What skills and abilities do children develop from the experience of having
daily access to the materials and interactions in Dramatic Play?
 Children practice many skills and attempt to
understand what happens in the world.
 Dramatic Play is the activity in which children
practice the most language skills in the classroom
and also develop their social skill.
 Listening and talking become important while in
dramatic play as the children become older
preschoolers they start to take charge and
coordinate. Also, strong development in social-
emotional issues can be resolved through this play.
 Children’s cognitive skills become stronger and they
learn how to make/tell a story, brainstorm, create
ideas, role play etc.
