2. The Importance of Words
Words are part of human nature. We write and we speak because it‟s
all we know. It‟s how we pass things down, communicate with each
other and shape the world we live in today.
The words we use often speak
of our character.
Words can kill and words can
save it‟s your choice to decide how
you use them.
3. Martin Luther King Jr.
Martin Luther King Jr. was an inspirational man, he helped give black
people the equality and freedom they have today.
He never used violence, however he did give speeches and used his
power of words to influence people into seeing things his way.
He used his words for good.
He chose words over actions and
accomplished what he wanted to do.
“We must develop and maintain the capacity
to forgive. He who is devoid of the power to
forgive is devoid of the power to love. There
is some good in the worst of us and some evil
in the best of us. When we discover this, we are
less prone to hate our enemies.”
-Martin Luther King, Jr.
4. Adolf Hitler
Hitler was Führer of the Third Reich and lead the German army into world
War Two.
He was a very influential leader.
He had all of Germany following him. They believed he
was helping them become a stronger and more
prosperous nation.
His words were so influential that he changed the world;
Martin Luther King Jr. changed it with love and freedom,
Hitler did it with malice and hate.
“Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and
eventually they will believe it. “
-Adolf Hitler
5. The Ability to affect a
person‟s life
What people do and say have the ability to affect another. Whether the
person knows it or not.
Everyday people subconsciously affect people with what they say.
Something as simple as a compliment or an insult can change how a
person views themselves or others.
Teenagers are the worst for using their power
of words to bring others down. All of us have
been bullied or put down in some way. Think of
how that affected you? Or what you may have
said has affected others.
Words can give you the courage to keep going
or it can give you one more reason to give up.
6. Continued…
The right words at the right time can make all the difference to
someone. But the right words at the wrong time can be just as
damaging as the wrong words.
We often use our words without thinking, it‟s something we do
everyday because teens are open minded and blunt. We really don‟t
notice what our words do. Sometimes we say something so simple,
normal even but to one person you could make their day just a little bit
better.
7. When you add intent to words it
makes them more powerful
Intent means that there is meaning behind what you say, by having
emotion or passion behind a statement gives it power and purpose.
Tone is also a major factor with regards to the words power. A
person‟s tone of voice can decide how the listener responds.
The order of words mean a lot to.
You can have the exact same words
but placing them in a different order
can change how the words are read
or understood.

“„Tis a strange mystery, the power of words!
Life is in them, and death. A word can send
The crimson colour hurrying to the cheek.
Hurrying with many meanings, or can turn
The current cold and deadly to the heart.
Anger and fear are in them, grief and joy
Are on their sound; yet slight, impalpable:~~
A word is but a breath of passing air.”
