The document discusses the glory of the cross from a sermon. It covers three main points: (1) The cross represents man's sins that Jesus died for. (2) The cross demonstrates God's great love for humanity in that he was willing to sacrifice his son. (3) The cross provides forgiveness from God that humanity desperately needs, as salvation cannot be achieved through any other means. The cross is the central focal point of God's redemptive plan and the only means by which people can be reconciled to God.
3. The Glory of the Cross!
1 Cor. 1:17-18 For Christ did not
send me to baptize, but to preach the
gospel, not with wisdom of words,
lest the cross of Christ should be
made of no effect. For the message
of the cross is foolishness to those
who are perishing, but to us who are
being saved it is the power of God.
4. 5 weeks back we studied about
“The Cross of Christ!”
▪ We noticed that the Bible has a lot to say
about the cross and it’s importance!
▸The three points we looked at were (1)
The Means (2) The Man (3) The Message
▪ I would like for us to once again focus on
the cross this morning and for us to
understand it’s glory!
5. The Greatest Event in History!
1 Cor. 2:1-2 And I, brethren, when I came to you, did
not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom
declaring to you the testimony of God. For I
determined not to know anything among you except
Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
▪ The Bible declares that the Cross of Christ
is the heart of the gospel!
▸1 Cor. 15:1-4
▪ It was for the purpose of going to the
cross that Jesus came!
▸Mk. 8:21
6. The cross is the center/focal point
of God’s plan of redemption!
▪ This plan is found from the beginning to end of
the Bible! (Cf. 1 Jn. 3:8)
▸Gen 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you
and the woman, And between your seed and
her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you
shall bruise His heel.
▸Gal 3:16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were
the promises made. He does not say, "And to
seeds," as of many, but as of one, "And to your
Seed," who is Christ.
7. The Glory of the Cross!
▪ It is our hope & prayer that when we leave
here today, we will better understand the
glory of the cross!
▪ Today we will be looking at three things
the cross represents!
▪ We hope to come to a better
understanding & greater appreciation of the
cross this morning!
▸Our goal is to come to understand its
8. I. Man’s Sins!
Mt 26:28 “For this is My blood of the new
covenant, which is shed for many for the
remission of sins.”
▪ It was our sins that sent Jesus to the cross!
▸Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but
the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our
Lord.
▸Rev 1:5 ... who loved us and washed us
from our sins in His own blood.
9. We serve a God that has never made a
mistake or done anything wrong!
▪ Yet He was willing to die for our mistakes
and for our wrongs!
▸2 Cor. 5:21 For He made Him who knew
no sin to be sin for us, that we might become
the righteousness of God in Him.
▸Is 53:6 All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of
us all.
10. II. God’s Love!
▪ Jn 3:16 For God so loved the world that He
gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but have
everlasting life.
▪ 1 Jn 3:16 By this we know love, because
He laid down His life for us. And we also
ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
▪ Jn 15:13 Greater love has no one than this,
than to lay down one's life for his friends.
11. Man’s sins sent Jesus to the cross,
but God’s love held Him there!
▪ Jn 10:17-18 "Therefore My Father loves
Me, because I lay down My life that I may
take it again. "No one takes it from Me, but I
lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it
down, and I have power to take it again. This
command I have received from My Father."
▪ Mt 26:53 “Or do you think that I cannot now
pray to My Father, and He will provide Me
with more than twelve legions of angels?”
12. When we remember the cross,
do we see God’s love there?
▪ Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own
love toward us, in that while we were still
sinners, Christ died for us.
▪ Truly the God we serve, is a God that
loves us!
▸1 Jn. 4:7-11
▪ Knowing that we would sin, and knowing
what it would cost to redeem us, God still
created men! Now that is love!
13. III. God’s/Man’s
Forgiveness!
▪ This forgiveness is “from God” and is
“needed by man!”
▸Heb 10:5 & 10 Therefore, when He came into
the world, He said: “Sacrifice and offering You
did not desire, But a body You have prepared
for Me.” By that will we have been sanctified
through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ
once for all.
14. Forgiveness from God needed by man!
1 Pet 1:18-20 knowing that you were not redeemed
with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your
aimless conduct received by tradition from your
fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a
lamb without blemish and without spot. He indeed
was foreordained before the foundation of the world,
but was manifest in these last times for you.
▪ If salvation was based on you & me, then
none of us could enter heaven!
▸Rom. 3:10-12
▸Salvation is only found in Jesus! (Act. 4:12)
15. Have we forgotten the prayer that
Jesus prayed in the garden?
(Mt. 26:36-46) “If it is possible!”
▪ Jesus didn’t enjoy being rejected, being
mocked and beaten, but He was willing to
do what was needed!
▪ Jesus went to the cross because He knew
it was the only way to bring men back to
God!
▪ There is no hope without the cross!
16. Conclusion:
▪ How often do we take for granted the
cross of Christ? How often do we fail to
understand it’s glory?
▪ Do we understand that it was (1) Man’s
sins that sent Him there (2) God’s love that
held Him there (3) It’s the only means of
redemption!
▪ Have you come to bow before the foot of
the cross? Have you come to know its
Savior?
