rate in Hawaii, ultimately lowering many other
problems.

 In 2006, Hawaii received over $1.7 million in
funds for abstinence-only programs which
emphasize marriage as the only appropriate
situation for sex. Unfortunately, research on
abstinence-only programs has found them
ineffective in reducing teen pregnancy and
delaying sexual activity. We hope to find another
solution to the problem through empowerment,
education and accountability.
