5. The Enola Gay The “Enola Gay” was the B-29 bomber that dropped "Little Boy“ which was the first atomic bomb ever used in war. They attacked the city of Hiroshima on Japan on August 6 th, 1945, this was just before the end of World War II. It was named after Enola Gay Tibbets, she was the mother of the pilot named Paul Tibbets. In 1995 the Enola Gay gained national attention when the cockpit and nose section of the aircraft was placed at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
