The French revolution was one of the most eye opening revolutions in the history of
man kind. Some people even say that the French revolution is what made the world
what it is today. If that is good or not, we will never know. France persevered through
extremely hard times, from the famine to monarchy to Robespierre. Through out the
revolution, over 50,000 innocent people died. There was never any true justice for
the men and women of France, but now, France can live with fraternity, liberty, and
equality.

June 20 th , 1789 Camille Roux Tennis Court Oath Ignored. Betrayed. It never stopped did it? The poorest of the poorest had to give the most amount of money. And the filthy rich prayed nothing! What was this madness? I prayed and prayed that it would all be over before Alexandre and Angelina grew up. I didn't want them to have to face what happened to their father again. They should be free from all this betrayal and ignorance. Especially that the only reason the king was taxing us was because his family was having financial troubles with all the money they were spending on themselves . This was insane. Let me tell you exactly what happened so you will understand my frustration. June 20 th , 1789, all three estates were to have a meeting to discuss the national assembly . We were betrayed and locked out of the meeting. We all felt ignored and wanted to rebel but decided not to because it would just lead to more misery and pain. We stormed to the nearest tennis court in sight because it was the only space large enough to fit all 600 of us. Mounier , one of our representatives proposed that the idea that we adopt an oath of allegiance to never leave another third estate member and to never break up and to meet wherever the circumstances dictate . The proposal was accepted by the constitution of the France. All thanks to Mounier and 577 other representatives â signatures , we were one step closer to equality. So I can imagine you understand the fury I was in. I just wanted what was best for my children. Ever since they lost their papa to the famine , they have been terrified of everything. Everyday that I pass the tennis courts to my work at the clothing store, it brings a warm feeling inside of me that I never want to let go. It helps me move on from the famine, taxes, and inequality that I see in my everyday life. I really do hope that the king can open his eyes and see what is happening beyond his walls of diamonds and rubies and help us regain equality. I hope that when my children grow up, they will have money, food, and love that aren â t killed off in a famine. I wish for them to be happy and not so miserable and devastated like they are now. Even though the oath of allegiance was made in a tennis court, I hope that this it another step further to equality.
August 10th, 1792 Camille Roux Overthrow of the Monarchy I couldn â t take it anymore. It was all to insane, crazy, outrageous. Why were we having to pay the most for a simple piece of bread. The bread itself wasn â t expensive, it was the tax. It was obsurd. I had only dreamed about the amount of food the king ate a day. I heard about it from the soldiers that monitored our village. He said that he would have feasts that could serve up to one thousand peasants a day ! Oh how I would kill for that luxury. Food was getting scarce and I was scared that I would die from another famine as did my husband, leaving my children with nothing. I would not let the greedy king take what is mine once again. We had heard news that the money that was going into the wars with Austria and Prussia was going down the drain . The king was soon to be broke and this was the reason of the taxes being so high . How could Marie Antoinette marry such a horrible man ? It wasn â t like he had any money ! He was a greedy, selfish, chubby man that took the lives out of poor innocent peasants. And that wasn â t the worst of it. There were rumours that the king was only pretending to be with France and they were really double-crossing with Austria . When we heard this news, we were outraged ! What insanity was this ? I would not tolerate this type of behavior any longer. After hearing that the rumours were true, me and 20,000 other angry citizens attacked the palace and caused Marie Antoinette and the king to flee from their palace as we scrummaged and stole from the palace. After the attack, the Assembly had imprisoned them for their lies, schemes, and ruses. All the kings followers were punnished on the Guillotine and we paraded their heads on pikes. This was a warning to all followers to be warned not to mess with us. Just imagine, putting all your faith into one person and then they let you down. How would you feel ? Betrayed ? Outraged ? Well thats how pretty much the whole of France felt. Who was to lead us now ? Now that moarchy was out of the running, what was to happen to us ? Liberty, Equality, Faternity . It was all we wanted to live by. Three words that could bring a country back on it â s feet. Those three words brought us to a republic goverened by a selected group of and elected assembly. Would everything be alright now ? Now that all traces of the King were gone ? We just wanted Liberty, Equality, and Faternity . It was all we had asked for. Please save us from this insanity before it was too late. I beg of you my country.

July 28 th , 1794 Camille Roux The Reign of Terror Every night I felt the terror creeping in under my door, but now it was different. Robespierre was dead and now the reign of terror was over. It all started in the month of September 1793 . King Louis was dead and we were waiting for a new leader to save our republic . We thought we found it but we were all mistaken. The Committee of Public Safety had added three more people to their committee, one of the being Robespierre . Through out the year, several people dies through out the reign of terror. Over 40,000 people had died innocently. Robespierre had killed several of his opponents through the guillotine just because they were a â threat â . I saw several of my neighbors and friends murdered from my bedroom window. The moment of silence after every chopping, it was scary. My children feared that the guillotine would kill me, and that they would have nothing left besides memories and these words. Ever since my husband died in the famine all those years ago, I have never felt same to be sleeping at night. I always felt that there was something stopping me from being truly peaceful. I felt like the Committee of Public Safety was coming after my family and me. It never felt like the terror was ever going to end. Imagine hearing over 40,000 silences over a year, that was more than a hundred silences a day! It went on and on and on, all the way from the famine until now. It had all come to a stop. Robespierre was a man that wanted power, money, and fame . The second he joined the committee of public safety ; he eliminated his opposition one by one. He felt no remorse for the innocent people he killed. And today, I will feel no remorse for his death. I waited for this moment for ages. I had seen about all of my friends brutally murdered because of this man. Well now it was his turn. I hoped that this would be the end of the revolution. It had been seven years since my husband â s death and I have finally felt closure. Everyone that ever hurt me was going down for what they did. It was my time for happiness with a little feast and partying. After all these years, going through the famine to the reign of terror, it changed me to be a better person. I fear that my time may end soon and that Angelina and Alexandre will be left with nothing but memories and words.
