2. Life without order can be chaotic, and the best way to
create order is to set goals. Goal setting can be the key
to having success and happiness in your life. Everyone
already knows how to set a goal, most people do it
every year with News Years Resolutions, however it is
sticking to and achieving the goal that can become
difficult. In order to attain the goals you set you must
know exactly what you want out of it, be passionate
about it, and have a solid plan of action. While you may
find yourself facing many obstacles along the path to
your goal, you can use these 5 tried and true methods to
help you achieve the success you want and deserve.
3. 1. Know exactly what your goal is. Your first job is to
discover exactly what your goal is. What will achieving
that goal really look like? Be as specific as possible about
exactly what your desired end result is. Your success will
be a measure of your clarity - since an achievable goal
plan cannot be created around a vague "dream."
4. Is your goal focused on trying to get into a certain
college? Do you want to make more money? Would you
like to become better organized? Once you set your goal,
you need to define it clearly and completely. The more
detail you include, the more likely your success. Envision
how you will be or feel when you achieve that goal,
write down steps you need to achieve in order to get
there, and try to anticipate any possible road blocks
along the way and how you will handle them. This can
be challenging for some, but without this clear picture
you will not have the proper focus to achieve your goal.
5. 2. Be willing to pay the "entry fee". Success isn't
achieved by sitting and waiting for things to happen.
Achieving a goal and having a set plan to achieve it by go
hand in hand. Think of yourself as an author writing a
story. You have a rough idea in your head of the plot line
of your next novel (which is going to be a bestseller by
the way!) You write that down on paper, and slowly but
surely, the plot line develops into a solid story. You start
developing the characters, their nuances, and their
influence on your plot. You start mapping out the events
in your story that will help your novel to develop. The
moment that roughly thought out plot line becomes a
solid story, it becomes a
6. novel. Now apply this methodology to setting out a plan
to achieve your goal. But consider the "entry fee" to this
as well.
7. Creating more study success may mean less recreational
time. Getting an A+ in Maths may require you to watch
less TV. It's the "full glass" theory. If your life (and your
time) is already full to the top, there's no room for
something new. The entry fee is carving out the time to
create that amazing thing for yourself.
8. 3. Focus on your goal. In order to achieve your goal you
must make it a priority to focus on it every day. I am sure
you have heard the phrase, "old habits die hard", and it
is said for good reason. Old mental habits are hard to
break and without constant and clear mental focus on
your goal they can easily overwhelm and take over. If
you find yourself about to fall into your old habits, stop
and make a clear mental note of what you want, how
what you are about to do does not help your goal, make
the correct action, and move on. With this daily
repetitive action and focus, you will be that much closer
to breaking your old habits and making room for the
new goals in your life.
9. As stated in step two, life will try to get in the way of
your success, don't let it! By staying focused and
recommitting to your goal every day, you will make sure
you stay on course. Remember that you are worth it and
you are never the backseat driver to your own life!
10. 4. Get passionate. One of the most powerful tools in
your "success tool box" is having real passion for your
goal. Why passion? Because intense passionate desire
for your goal will help you burn in those new neural
pathways even faster. Many scientific studies have
shown that intense emotion (i.e. passion) is a key
success tool. Plus (and this is really a big plus), intense
passion will also help you rapidly override any
inappropriate old "failure messages" stored in your
subconscious mind.
11. 5. Take consistent steps. The most difficult step for many
people is taking the actual steps to reach your goal. The
best course of action is to take one step at a time. Each
small step will lead to bigger steps in your success. Think
about it like building blocks. We can't create a castle
with one big block; we need to take one small block at a
time and build up to our ultimate goal. You cannot sit
back and wait for that castle to build itself, you need to
be proactive and make one small step toward your goal
each day.
12. Remember, life is simply what you make of it. You can
create the life you desire, provided you know what it is
that you want and focus on it with passion. This intense
passion and focus can only bear fruit if you take action.
Don't just dream about it, do it!
