Steps & Objectives
Step 1:
1. COMPLETE the Giacometti Artist Profile
2. by answering the questions on the word document found on my server space (JHDorofyJ-Art 8-Giacometti Project- Artist Profile. or my blog
(dorofyart8.blogspot.com))
3. SUBMIT your answers by dropping the word documents into my drop box/email
them to me/or submit a hard copy to the submit drawer in the classroom

Step 2:
1. BRAINSTORM: For this project you will be creating a figure that demonstrates a
positive message through a pose. THINK ABOUT WHAT acts of kindness or helpful
things can be done and how you can represent them.
Practice SKETCHES of your figure in a few of your chosen pose s IN your
SKETCHBOOK:
1. CREATE 3 Thumbnails: 1 of each view.
2. After you do this, then based on the BEST pose CREATE 3 Full page sketches: 1 of
each view.
3. All sketches that you do not complete in class areHOMEWORK
Step 3:ARMATURE –FRAME(YES! The 1st step of sculpting a figure is the same as
drawing the figure!!)
1. CREATE Frame with wire as demonstrated in class; don’t forget human
proportions!
Step 4:MUSCLE& BULK – FORM (YEP! Same 2nd step as drawing the figure even though
we are sculpting!)
1. CREATE form with newspaper and masking tape; don’t forget all of the features
that make us human beings! Head, neck, shoulders, torso, waist, hips, arms,
ALL sculptures will be kept on back
counter!
2. elbows, legs, knees, ankles, feet.
2. REMEMBER human proportions!
3. DO NOT worry about little features like fingers, ears, nose, etc.
Step 5: SKIN– FORM (OK, yeah, it’s a little different with sculpture. We will create form
slowly.)
1. CREATEmore accurate but still very basic form with plaster as demonstrated in
class.
2. REMEMBER human proportions! Don’t change the form from Step 4. Just add skin.
3. DO NOT worry about little features like fingers, ears, nose, etc.
Step 6: SMALL FEATURES – FINAL DETAIL (We’re finally on the last step of creating the
figure in sculpture!)
1. CREATE small features with plaster.
2. REMEMBER human proportions!
3. DO NOT forget features like, eyes, nose, mouth, lips, calves, biceps, forearms, jaws,
hair, etc.
Step 8:PAINT – FINAL DETAIL (This will be the final step in the art making process of
this sculpture)
1. CREATE final detail with acrylic paint using one or both of the techniques
demonstrated in class:
a. Dry Brush
b. Subtractive Acrylic wash
Step 9: REFLECT - RUBRIC (As always use complete sentences and EXPLAIN all of your
responses)
1. ANSWER all reflection questions
2. CIRCLE the scores that you think you deserve on the rubric
