3. Sponges
There are four different ways to sponge
paint:
•Dry on Dry Effect- put the paint on
your sponge, but not too much, and
put in onto the dry paper.
•Stippled Effect- this allows you to
put a lot of paint on your sponge
and cover the whole paper with just
one color. This sets up a good
background for your picture.
•Sponge Swirl Effect- This style
allows you to get a lot of paint on
your sponge. Take your sponge
and spin it in circles, but be careful
not to lift it off the paper.
4. Sponges ctd.
•Delicate Sponge Effect-When using
this effect you will have to have your
whole picture done because you are
going to cut your sponge. This effect
is used to add leaves on trees or grass
on the ground.
Now that we know how to use our
sponges we are going to paint with
brushes.
5. Large Brushes
There are many different types of paint
brushes, but we will be using rounded
topped large brushes.
These brushes allow you to paint a bigger
pictures and cover more space with less
strokes.
We will be using Tempera paint and also
each of you will have your own brush that
will have your name and you can pick a
color handle.
6. Tempera is a type of paint also known
as egg tempera.
It was found by the early Egyptians
and used on mummy portraits.
When we paint with Tempera we will
be using our sponges and our large
paint brushes to make our pictures.
7. Each of you will have a set of water color
paints in front of you. You will also have a
cup of water.
First dip your brush in the water, then bring
it over to the color you want to paint with
and put it on the paper. Continue to do
these steps, but when you want to change
colors rinse your brush off so you don’t
mix colors.
Crayons and water colors are often used
together to make your drawing pop out
more and to have different textures in your
pictures.
8. This is one of the easiest and
messy art projects that we will
make.
You will be given different colors
of Tempera paint and use your
hands and fingers to make a
picture.
Don’t worry about making a
mess, that is what finger painting
is all about.
