- 10. • The ISS catalogue will tell you – If we have the book you want – If it has been taken out by someone – Where you will find it in the library • You’ll need to know the classmark to work out how to find a book • For example: PE1408 LEV is the classmark for ‘Write great essays!’ by Peter Levin Finding Books 10
- 11. 1. Search the catalogue using relevant keywords: - the author’s last name and one or two significant words from the title 2. Click on ‘location’ for any item that interests you 3. - 16. • Journals are used to disseminate research and encourage debate amongst academics • They are published regularly throughout the year • Each volume will contain several different articles on different topics by different academics • Journals are listed on the ISS catalogue • You will need to search for the journal title rather than the article title Journal Articles 16

ISS booklet for…. does that job. N.B. New perspective – all 2-4 are from students requirements. This year we’re trying to present ISS services to students from their perspective. 2-4 are the three things students want most, especially when they are new.
- Brief run through of ISS – don’t need to go into detail. We are answerable for all these services
- All the other ISCs. Stressing all are open for use by King’s students. Customise as necessary. Remember the ISCs at clinical sites if you are on placement The bulk of the texts will be at Franklin Wilkins for Nursing and Midwifery students

- College web site - New infrastructure and going through a period of change - Will change appearance - More content will be moved into OneSpace Explain that OneSpace is the College Portal. No need to stress it is a new service – but emphasise that new content and services will be added over time. Come back to OneSpace throughout the session as you refer to key ISS services and content. Highlight password changer and single sign-on. If a student changes their ISS PIN for example then when they login next to OneSpace their catalogue web part won’t display – instead they’ll get a link to the OneSpace password changer which allows them to select which passwords they need to update for OneSpace single sign-on. Contingency – if OneSpace is down at any time there will be an appropriate message on the login page. There will also be links to all services and content e.g. myKCL and ISS pages. No need to flag this up unless it happens! Please remember though that the external ISS web pages will be changing too – these will have a separate launch and links on the right hand side of the front page for King’s people. These links go to OneSpace.
- Student requirements 2 ‘Books’ sounds better than ‘items’ but you don’t have to limit this to books. Customise book and classmark example. Note loan limit is for undergraduates. Mention extra detail if you have time – loan status, loan limit breakdown, fines etc.. N.B. We refer them to the ‘ISS for…’ booklet at the end of the session. Book fetching service refers to disability support (not closed stack). Show Study page in OneSpace – link to ISS catalogue.
- Worth mentioning that these are new services and that Not all reading lists will be online Not all modules will make use of digital course packs
- Show renewal option in OneSpace.
- Optional to customise depending on group etc… N.B. OneSpace Study has links to Metalib e journals and databases etc… Past exam papers are not provided by ISS. Students should consult their module leader.
- Customise library info. N.B. We can’t encourage everyone to register at BL without reason! Note new prices for ILLs!
- Most students use Google but most are not aware of Google Scholar. Optional depending on group. The Cochrane database of systematic reviews??
- N.B. academics have different views on Wikipedia. Some are promoting it. Some are banning it! Our position is pragmatic – students use it so let’s help them use it intelligently. If you want a fun page try ‘Exploding whale’!
