Jim’s driven and Steakhouse has over 50 years of history as Sumter’s iconic eating
establishment. The restaurants new owners “Imperial Restaurant” wish to recapture
that old world nostalgia. Before the invention of chain restaurant local communities
would visit and cherish local eat establishments. For over 40 years in Sumter
residents would frequent Cole’s Dinner and Big Jim’s Driven.
Stories are told in Sumter about cruising the main streets on a Saturday night, during
the 1950’s and 1960’s and stopping by Big Jim’s Drive to get the scoop on the local
scene. Grandparents tell grandkids stories of how it was a grand occasion, and get
dress in their Sunday fine liens, to go as family eat a Big Jims Restaurant to eat. The
