2. Leaflet- Be a Star Breastfeeding
The choice of using pink for
headings and separating
lines works for the target
audience of breastfeeding
mothers.
Breastfeeding is the best
option for the baby and the
mother. Because of this the
leaflet is biased and pro-breastfeeding.
Although it is largely biased, the
leaflet does contain some
evidence against breastfeeding,
here the woman admits
breastfeeding is hard.
Bolding here highlights the
words “You” and “your”
expressing the importance
of the mother and the baby
reinforcing the fact that
whether they breastfeed or
not is their decision.
Use of images showing the ladies as
very glamorous and womanly could be
used to anchor the point that the NHS
believe breastfeeding is something that
women should be doing.
Headings in bold reinforcing
that these women are
normal- but the fact that
they breastfeed makes them
a “Star”.
The way the information is
presented in bullet points
makes it clear and concise.
The leaflet has grammatical
contractions throughout
using a more informal
register for the piece to
make it seem like it is a
normal women speaking.
It is essential that a leaflet
from a health organisation is
accurate with its
information and advice, so
all the points in this piece
will have been carefully
checked.
3. Here the leaflet miss out evidence of
argument by failing to mention the
possibility that the mothers parents
breast fed and that they should choose
not to do the same as them in that
instance. This shows more evidence for
bias.
The use of star graphics rather
than the usual dot bullet point
makes the leaflet more
decorative but also adds to the
womanly theme to the piece
and links in with the repeated
line; “she's a star”.
The font used in this leaflet is easy to
read although it is relatively small, this
is good as it allows the information to
be clear.
Quotes from the women build the
argument and form a relatable
viewpoint for the mothers reading that
can be very persuasive.

4. How to- Digital Camera’s Shoot Dynamic Kid’s Portraits.
Grammatical
contractions and the fact
they have not used very
hard to read words
throughout the piece
sets an informal register
allowing the reader to
understand the piece
easily. Use of bullet points
here lays the
information out well
making it easy to
All through the piece read and concise.
the writer isn't only
giving instructions
on what to do but
also gives little tips
and bits of advice

5. How to- Digital Camera’s Shoot Dynamic Kid’s Portraits.
Lots of photographs used in this to
demonstrate what the how to article is
telling the reader what to do.
Rather than bolding, this piece has just
used a larger font size to draw
attention to the headings of the
different sections. This is still effective
and is just a less harsh and heavy way
to draw attention to a specific part of
writing.
To feature photographs of
people, especially ones of
children, correct permission
must be sought and
attained. In order for the
magazine to publish this
article they will have gotten
all of this permission.
6. Instructions- Origami
Uses the register of instructions,
this isn't usual grammatically
correct sentences but sentences
structured in the best way to
clearly and concisely present
instructions.
Numbers are used to show the order of
instructions clearly so they can be easily
followed. The Numbers are in bold so that
they can be easily seen by the reader.
The use of images in this
set of instructions supports
each step by showing a
visual representation of
what that instruction is
telling the reader to do.
The font is simple and easy to
read, and the use of only the black
text on the white background
makes the text even easier to
read.
With all publications, an
illustrator must have given
permission for his work to
be used. If someone else’s
work is used without their
permission this infringes
copyright and legal action
can be taken. Because of
this permission will have
been sought for the use of
the illustrations.
7. Factual Journalism- Vice
Use of bolding here draws
attention to the piece heading,
and the name of the journalist.
Another tool that has
been used to draw
attention to specific parts
of the article is a drop
capital. Here it has been
used to draw attention to
the beginning of the
article.
Use of large image draws
attention to the article,
especially with the image
being of a gun; a very
visually striking object.
The fact that the gun has been photographed lined
up next to rulers and has serial numbers clearly
presented makes it look as though it has been
photographed for police evidence. This image could
have been used to anchor the fact that guns are a
bad thing and to support the journalists opinion.
As the article goes on to explain, this gun is in fact a gun that had been used to
commit a murder and is police evidence. Because of this special permission
will have been sought to attain and use this image in order to not break any
laws.
The article is set out in columns. This
is the standard way for most
journalistic pieces to be set out and
this is probably due to the way it
presents the information very clearly
and makes it easy to read and
understand.
Referencing a recent, well
known murder involving an
innocent bystander works to
support the journalists opinion
that guns are bad as it is
something that many readers
of this article will have heard of
and have been appalled by.
8. Factual Journalism- Vice
Use of a quote from a former
murder squad detective adds
weight to the journalists
argument by validating his
point.
This article is definitely
biased against gun crime and
shows it in a very dark light.
their is mention of murders,
crime rates and the journalist
has got statements from
police but no gangsters, this
doesn’t show both sides of
the argument.
The article uses standard
English with no slang or
grammatical contractions
except in quotes. This makes
the information presented in
the article clear and easy to
understand but also gives the
journalist the appearance of
being educated. This makes a
reader more likely to believe
and side with them on a
point they are making.
The typography in this article is
simple and easy to read serif
font that looks quite formal and
makes the text clear and easy to
read.
The caption here adds
information to the photograph
below explaining what it shows
and giving the reader some
extra background information.
