Lower Floor Floorplan Skybox Project CONCEPT STATEMENT: OUR ROOTS
The roots of salsa music are broad, complex and sometimes controversial. Although
there is debate as to how exactly it got its name and how and where it started, it is
seen as combining a broad range of musical genres, instrumental combinations and
cultural influences. Its roots range from Cuban son montuno, Puerto Rican bomba
and plena, Dominican merengue, Cuban Yoruba ritual music and Afro-American
jazz and rhythm and blues.
Throughout this design, elements from these diverse genres of music and
cultural inflluences that comprise the roots of salsa will be represented, through
the use of graphic elements, color, movement and exciting surfaces and
materials which are also ecologically responsible and friendly. The result will be
a space that is exciting, rhytmic, full of life and representative of the Afro-
Caribbean roots of its company and the musical genre that it help to launch into
the world.
