DANIEL 12
THE FOUNDATION OF SDA CHURCH
Daniel 12:1 (KJV)
And at that time shall Michael stand up, the
great prince which standeth for the children of thy
people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as
never was since there was a nation even to that same
time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered,
every one that shall be found written in the book.
Michael (Jesus) Did Three Things.
i. Stands up! Puts an end to the persecution, probation closed.
ii. Pours out the 7 last plagues! “Time of trouble such as never
was.” (Rev. 15, 16)
iii. Delivers His people who are written in the Book of life!
Hebrew 1:3 (KJV)
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the
express image of his person, and upholding all things
by the word of his power, when he had by himself
purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the
Majesty on high;
Hebrew 8:1-2 (KJV)
1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the
sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the
right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true
tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. {of
the sanctuary: or, of holy things}.
“and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never
was since there was a nation even to that same
time:”
 Pours Out the 7th Last Plagues
 Revelation 15 & Revelation 16
DANIEL 12:2-3 (KJV)
2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth
shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to
shame and everlasting contempt. 3 And they that be
wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and
they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for
ever and ever. {wise: or, teachers}
John 5:28-29 (KJV)
28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the
which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29
And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto
the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil,
unto the resurrection of damnation.
Two Types of Resurrections
Revelation 20:4-6
And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment
was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were
beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God,
and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image,
neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in
their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a
thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again
until the thousand years were finished. This is the first
resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the
first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power,
but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign
with him a thousand years.
Daniel 12:4 (KJV)
Vs 4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book,
even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and
knowledge shall be increased.
Vs 9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed
up and sealed till the time of the end.
Daniel 12:4 (KJV)
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book,
even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro,
and knowledge shall be increased.
Daniel 12:4 (NIV)
But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll
until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to
increase knowledge.
“Shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the
end” Which book did Angel Gabriel told Daniel to sealed?
 It’s the vision/chazon that gave into Daniel 11:2-40.
Daniel 12:5-7 (KJV)
Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one
on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of
the bank of the river. 6 And one said to the man clothed in linen,
which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to
the end of these wonders? 7 And I heard the man clothed in linen,
which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right
hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth
for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when
he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy
people, all these things shall be finished.
Daniel 10:4-6 (KJV)
And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great
river, which is Hiddekel; 5 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a
certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: 6 His
body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes
as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the
voice of his words like the voice of a multitude.
Revelation 1:13-15 (KJV)
And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with
a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 14 His head
and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of
fire; 15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice
as the sound of many waters.
 “How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?”
 Daniel 11:36 (KJV)
And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt
himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak
marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the
indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.
 Lexical: ‫ֶא‬‫ל‬ֶ‫פ‬
-
 Transliteration: pele-
Phonetic Spelling: peh'-leh-
 Definition: a wonder.-
 Origin: From pala'; a miracle.-
 Usage: marvellous thing, wonder(-ful, -fully).
Daniel 12:8-10 (KJV)
And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my
Lord, what shall be the end of these things? 9 And he
said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and
sealed till the time of the end. 10 Many shall be purified,
and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do
wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but
the wise shall understand.
Revelation 10:8-11
And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again,
and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of
the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. 9 And
I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book.
And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy
belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. 10 And I
took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it
was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it,
my belly was bitter. 11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy
again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
THE BITTERNESS
Hiram Edson probably summarized their experience as
graphically as anyone:
“We looked for our coming Lord until the clock tolled 12 at
midnight. The day had then passed and our disappointment
became a certainty. Our fondest hopes and expectations
were blasted, and such a spirit of weeping came over us as
I never experienced before. . . We wept, and wept, till the
day dawn.”
As a church, we see our history in Revelation 10. In v.10, the
little book was sweet in the mouth but bitter in the belly.
Joseph Bates, describing the [Exeter, New Hampshire] camp
meeting held in August, 1844, where the October 22 date was
first preached [by Samuel Snow], later recalled,
“When that meeting closed, the granite hills of New
Hampshire were ringing with the mighty cry, ‘Behold the
bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet Him.’As the loaded
wagons, stages, and railroad cars rolled away through the
different states, cities, and villages of New England, the cry
was still resounding, ‘Behold the bridegroom cometh.’ Time is
short! Get ready! Get ready!”
Daniel 12:11-12 (KJV)
And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be
taken away, and the abomination that maketh
desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two
hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he that
waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three
hundred and five and thirty days.
THREE MAJOR TIME PROPHECIES
1260 1290 1335
• Five thousand years ago, Sumerians had a calendar that divided the year
into 30-day months, divided the day into 12 periods (each corresponding to 2
of our hours), and divided these periods into 30 parts (each like 4 of our
minutes).
• Babylonian Calendar: The Babylonians inherited from Sumeria the
relationship between the calendar and the number system with the 12-
month, 360-day year giving rise to base 60. In Babylon, 60 was unity, 60 was
time, and 60 was money. That is, in counting, the number 1 could be used as
equal to the number 60. For time division, 60 minutes made one hour in
Babylon.
• India Calendar: Encyclopedia of Indo-Aryan Research, G. Thibaut, states:
"All Veda texts speak uniformly and exclusively of a year of 360 days.
Passages in which this length of year is directly stated are found in all the
Brahmanas." Thibaut further states that the Vedas (1500 - 500 B.C.) never
mention intercalary days. The Sanskrit Mahabharata from the 1st
millennium B.C. indicates a year of twelve months of 30 days.
• Herodotus (Father of History), in about 440 B.C., wrote: With regard to
human affairs, all the priests agreed that the Egyptians were the first to
discover the year and to divide it into twelve parts. They obtained this this
knowledge by studying the stars. The Egyptian calendar seems to me to be
much more sensible that of the Greeks; for... the Egyptians, basing the
calendar on twelve thirth-day months,
• The Julian Calendar In 46 B.C., Julius Caesar reformed the calendar by
ordering the year to be 365 days in length and to contain 12 months.

Roman Church-State System Ends.
Clovis, 1st King of the Franks
and first barbarian to convert to
Catholic Christianity. This set up
union of church and state. State
to enforce dogmas of the Church.
The Dark Ages of Papal Supremacy
508 Visigoths – 1 horn removed
534 Vandals – 2 horn removed
538 Ostragoths – 3 horn removed
2nd Great Awakening
William Miller begun to
preach the 2nd coming message
based on Daniel 8:14.
1844
• Clovis was king of the Franks, one of the pagan tribes.
His father before him had worked devotedly with Rome’s
bishops.
• He professed conversion in 496, and his entire following
united with him in adherence to Catholicism, three
thousand of whom were baptized along with himself soon
after his conversion. As he expected, the Catholics rallied
around him as the only Catholic prince in the West.
• Clovis was named consul by the emperor; while by the
church at Rome he was called the first Catholic Majesty
and his successor “the Eldest Son of the Church.” The
“little horn” was now in process of uprooting other horns.
• Thirty years after the victory of 508 the papacy was
elevated to universal supremacy by Justinian. The stage
was already set. The victory of Clovis over the Visigoths in
508 which broke the centuries of pagan dominion did not
necessarily eradicate paganism scattered elsewhere.
• Thirty years later (A.D. 538) dominion passed to the
papacy, a theocracy which persecuted more severely than
did paganism. It is generally recognized that a union of
church and state is more intolerant than a political state.
• Justinian determined to make the rule of the papacy
universal within his dominion. In 532 he issued his famous
edict which laid the foundation for the persecutions of the
church which maintained the apostolic faith during the
1260 years.
• Justinian wrote to the pope in 533: “We have made no
delay in subjecting and uniting to Your Holiness all the
priests of the whole East.” In the same letter he also said:
“We cannot suffer than anything which relates to the state
of the church, however manifest and unquestionable,
should be moved, without the knowledge of Your Holiness,
who are THE HEAD OF ALL THE HOLY CHURCHES.” (Croly,
The Apocalypse of St. John, pages 167, 168.)
• Clovis, the king of the Franks defeated Visigoths in 508 A.D.
• Justinian general Belisarius defeated the Vandals in Africa in
534 A.D.
• Belisarius again defeated Ostragoths in 538 A.D.
• On May 7th 538 A.D. Justinian passes new laws in 3rd Synod at
Orleans.
•The power of the papal Church came to an end when the armed forces
of Napoleon, under general Berthier marched into Rome and took the
Pope captivity. This happened in the year 1798 A.D. exactly 1260 years
after the papacy came to power in 538 A.D.
•In February 20th, 1798 French General Louis Alexandre Bertheir
forcibly removes Pope Pius VI from Rome during French occupation
of Rome.(Pope later dies a prisoner in Valencia)

  • 1. DANIEL 12 THE FOUNDATION OF SDA CHURCH
  • 2. Daniel 12:1 (KJV) And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book.
  • 3. Michael (Jesus) Did Three Things. i. Stands up! Puts an end to the persecution, probation closed. ii. Pours out the 7 last plagues! “Time of trouble such as never was.” (Rev. 15, 16) iii. Delivers His people who are written in the Book of life!
  • 4. Hebrew 1:3 (KJV) Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
  • 5. Hebrew 8:1-2 (KJV) 1 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; 2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man. {of the sanctuary: or, of holy things}.
  • 6. “and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time:”  Pours Out the 7th Last Plagues  Revelation 15 & Revelation 16

DANIEL 12:2-3 (KJV) 2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. {wise: or, teachers}
  • 8. John 5:28-29 (KJV) 28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, 29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
  • 9. Two Types of Resurrections Revelation 20:4-6 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years. 5 But the rest of the dead lived not again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
  • 10. Daniel 12:4 (KJV) Vs 4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Vs 9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end.
  • 11. Daniel 12:4 (KJV) But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Daniel 12:4 (NIV) But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.
  • 12. “Shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end” Which book did Angel Gabriel told Daniel to sealed?  It’s the vision/chazon that gave into Daniel 11:2-40.
  • 13. Daniel 12:5-7 (KJV) Then I Daniel looked, and, behold, there stood other two, the one on this side of the bank of the river, and the other on that side of the bank of the river. 6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, How long shall it be to the end of these wonders? 7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.
  • 14. Daniel 10:4-6 (KJV) And in the four and twentieth day of the first month, as I was by the side of the great river, which is Hiddekel; 5 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and behold a certain man clothed in linen, whose loins were girded with fine gold of Uphaz: 6 His body also was like the beryl, and his face as the appearance of lightning, and his eyes as lamps of fire, and his arms and his feet like in colour to polished brass, and the voice of his words like the voice of a multitude. Revelation 1:13-15 (KJV) And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. 14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; 15 And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.
  • 15.  “How long shall it be to the end of these wonders?”  Daniel 11:36 (KJV) And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.  Lexical: ‫ֶא‬‫ל‬ֶ‫פ‬ -  Transliteration: pele- Phonetic Spelling: peh'-leh-  Definition: a wonder.-  Origin: From pala'; a miracle.-  Usage: marvellous thing, wonder(-ful, -fully).
  • 16. Daniel 12:8-10 (KJV) And I heard, but I understood not: then said I, O my Lord, what shall be the end of these things? 9 And he said, Go thy way, Daniel: for the words are closed up and sealed till the time of the end. 10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
  • 17. Revelation 10:8-11 And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. 9 And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. 10 And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter. 11 And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
  • 18. THE BITTERNESS Hiram Edson probably summarized their experience as graphically as anyone: “We looked for our coming Lord until the clock tolled 12 at midnight. The day had then passed and our disappointment became a certainty. Our fondest hopes and expectations were blasted, and such a spirit of weeping came over us as I never experienced before. . . We wept, and wept, till the day dawn.”
  • 19. As a church, we see our history in Revelation 10. In v.10, the little book was sweet in the mouth but bitter in the belly. Joseph Bates, describing the [Exeter, New Hampshire] camp meeting held in August, 1844, where the October 22 date was first preached [by Samuel Snow], later recalled, “When that meeting closed, the granite hills of New Hampshire were ringing with the mighty cry, ‘Behold the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet Him.’As the loaded wagons, stages, and railroad cars rolled away through the different states, cities, and villages of New England, the cry was still resounding, ‘Behold the bridegroom cometh.’ Time is short! Get ready! Get ready!”
  • 20. Daniel 12:11-12 (KJV) And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12 Blessed is he that waiteth, and cometh to the thousand three hundred and five and thirty days.
  • 21. THREE MAJOR TIME PROPHECIES 1260 1290 1335
  • 22. • Five thousand years ago, Sumerians had a calendar that divided the year into 30-day months, divided the day into 12 periods (each corresponding to 2 of our hours), and divided these periods into 30 parts (each like 4 of our minutes). • Babylonian Calendar: The Babylonians inherited from Sumeria the relationship between the calendar and the number system with the 12- month, 360-day year giving rise to base 60. In Babylon, 60 was unity, 60 was time, and 60 was money. That is, in counting, the number 1 could be used as equal to the number 60. For time division, 60 minutes made one hour in Babylon.
  • 23. • India Calendar: Encyclopedia of Indo-Aryan Research, G. Thibaut, states: "All Veda texts speak uniformly and exclusively of a year of 360 days. Passages in which this length of year is directly stated are found in all the Brahmanas." Thibaut further states that the Vedas (1500 - 500 B.C.) never mention intercalary days. The Sanskrit Mahabharata from the 1st millennium B.C. indicates a year of twelve months of 30 days. • Herodotus (Father of History), in about 440 B.C., wrote: With regard to human affairs, all the priests agreed that the Egyptians were the first to discover the year and to divide it into twelve parts. They obtained this this knowledge by studying the stars. The Egyptian calendar seems to me to be much more sensible that of the Greeks; for... the Egyptians, basing the calendar on twelve thirth-day months, • The Julian Calendar In 46 B.C., Julius Caesar reformed the calendar by ordering the year to be 365 days in length and to contain 12 months.
  • 24. 508 538 1798 1843 1260 days/years 1290 days 1335 days May 7th , 538 A.D. 3rd Synod at Orleans passes new laws. Feb 15th , 1798 A.D. Roman Church-State System Ends. Clovis, 1st King of the Franks and first barbarian to convert to Catholic Christianity. This set up union of church and state. State to enforce dogmas of the Church. The Dark Ages of Papal Supremacy 508 Visigoths – 1 horn removed 534 Vandals – 2 horn removed 538 Ostragoths – 3 horn removed 2nd Great Awakening William Miller begun to preach the 2nd coming message based on Daniel 8:14. 1844
  • 25. • Clovis was king of the Franks, one of the pagan tribes. His father before him had worked devotedly with Rome’s bishops. • He professed conversion in 496, and his entire following united with him in adherence to Catholicism, three thousand of whom were baptized along with himself soon after his conversion. As he expected, the Catholics rallied around him as the only Catholic prince in the West. • Clovis was named consul by the emperor; while by the church at Rome he was called the first Catholic Majesty and his successor “the Eldest Son of the Church.” The “little horn” was now in process of uprooting other horns.
  • 26. • Thirty years after the victory of 508 the papacy was elevated to universal supremacy by Justinian. The stage was already set. The victory of Clovis over the Visigoths in 508 which broke the centuries of pagan dominion did not necessarily eradicate paganism scattered elsewhere. • Thirty years later (A.D. 538) dominion passed to the papacy, a theocracy which persecuted more severely than did paganism. It is generally recognized that a union of church and state is more intolerant than a political state.
  • 27. • Justinian determined to make the rule of the papacy universal within his dominion. In 532 he issued his famous edict which laid the foundation for the persecutions of the church which maintained the apostolic faith during the 1260 years. • Justinian wrote to the pope in 533: “We have made no delay in subjecting and uniting to Your Holiness all the priests of the whole East.” In the same letter he also said: “We cannot suffer than anything which relates to the state of the church, however manifest and unquestionable, should be moved, without the knowledge of Your Holiness, who are THE HEAD OF ALL THE HOLY CHURCHES.” (Croly, The Apocalypse of St. John, pages 167, 168.)
  • 28. • Clovis, the king of the Franks defeated Visigoths in 508 A.D. • Justinian general Belisarius defeated the Vandals in Africa in 534 A.D. • Belisarius again defeated Ostragoths in 538 A.D. • On May 7th 538 A.D. Justinian passes new laws in 3rd Synod at Orleans.
  • 29. •The power of the papal Church came to an end when the armed forces of Napoleon, under general Berthier marched into Rome and took the Pope captivity. This happened in the year 1798 A.D. exactly 1260 years after the papacy came to power in 538 A.D. •In February 20th, 1798 French General Louis Alexandre Bertheir forcibly removes Pope Pius VI from Rome during French occupation of Rome.(Pope later dies a prisoner in Valencia)
