Working Title: race wars
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
Audience:
Who is your audience? Be very detailed; age, gender, social status, psychographic etc. Use the
Audience Classifications PowerPoint on Blackboard to help you develop this section.
Why would your project appeal to this person? Discuss each audience element in relation to
content (why would your product appeal to the age group? Why would your product appeal to the
gender? Etc.)
My specific target audience for my video game is in the 7-13 age range, mainly targeted towards
boys over girls as the game itself is a very simplistic racing style game however it may appeal to
girls as well within this age range. Social status in my opinion wouldn’t really play a factor due to
video games in general been a way to escape from reality, for entertainment purposes especially
for this particular age range and style of game that I will be creating. You would likely see my style
of game on websites aimed towards young kids such as a site called coolmathsgames.com, which
is a platform which puts out games targeted towards children 13 and under. Due to this factor, it is
clear to see why my target audience would much more likely be young school children particularly
boys instead of grown up men and women etc.
Defining a social status within a video games target audience is very hard, as it is difficult to come
to a definitive conclusion about which sector my target audience would fit into, video games are
designed to be an escape from reality, thus meaning that status isn’t really a factor I could talk
about as I couldn’t choose a particular type of person to state why they would be interested in my
game. Kids often stay away from the so called social hierarchy as they are particularly sheltered
when it comes to ideas within this area. Kids purely want to play video games because they find
them fun and in their opinion more interesting than going outside even though I’m sure when they
are fully grown they will reflect on the amount of time they will have spent on numerous video
games as wasted minutes they could have used to do something productive, much like myself.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Review your progress throughout the year- what video game and Photoshop skills and knowledge
have you acquired? How will you use those skills?
What was your advergame and how will it have a direct impact upon your project?
Over the course of the year my skills on Photoshop have developed well, with no prior experience
at the start of the year I feel as though I have made steady progress in terms of my knowledge
acquired. I now have a basic understanding of the fundamentals to animation, which is very much
like stop start animation, moving characters as well as backgrounds ever so slightly to insure they
move smoothly and realistically when it comes to watching the sequence. The key to this seems to
be patience, which at times personally can become thin. Taking inspiration from other games and
the ideas I have developed by myself I am setting out to create a game that will be completed to a
good standard and aesthetically pleasing to those viewing my piece. I think from the practise
attempt at the start of the project I now have somewhat of an understanding of how to create a
good background and what works and what doesn’t in terms of animating characters. I will use all
of the skills I have developed over the course of this project as well as the rest of the college to put
into action over the back end of this project. With a lot of patience and drive from myself I feel as
though I am ready to showcase my skills and develop the piece.

Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
What is the concept for your project and what are you going to make?
What research will you need to conduct and how will it help you make your project
the objective to the game is to complete the game in the fastest time possible as well as collecting
gold coins which in return will reduce the overall time taken of your initial time at the end of the
game, however it won’t just be as simple as that. You will need to weave in between other cars
between the lanes, dodging obstacles as well as bullets from those trying to block your path. You
will however be able to return fire in hope of destroying your opponent. I have researched multiple
other 2D games, that I have seen walk through of on YouTube within 4 separate games. The
general mechanics of a 2d car game from a top down view seem to be fairly simple in terms of
animating, however I am sure I will come up against battles with obstacles along the way, much
similarly to how I did in the practise. I am thinking of adding a start screen where a mouse pointer
will hover over and press a start button that will allow you to pass into the game. I will also be
adding a section at the end of the game itself after you pass the finish line where it will cut to black
and score will be adding up allocating time taken off, depending on the amount of gold coins
collected throughout the game. I am currently unsure whether I will be adding multiple levels to my
game and that will come down to the factor of time. Ideally I will have multiple levels of the game
completed when it comes towards the end of the project. Sound wise I plan to make a theme tune
using beatbox, which is an online website which enables you to make music with a variety of
different sounds. I believe will use sounds similar to what you’d hear in a game from the 80’s with a
repetitive catchy tune, I had a go at this in the practise and I think it worked well. Sounds effects
will also be created via beatbox, downloaded and dropped into my sequence. These sounds will
be triggered by for example things like, the start of a race, passing over gold coins, both enemies
shooting at you and the character returning fire [they will have two different sounds to indicate this]
which will likely be created by selecting a high pitch sound and stretching it to echo will create a
“pew” sounds, when you destroy enemies/something in your path there will be an explosion like
sound. As well sound effects will be added to indicate the end of the race as well as the adding up
of the score at the end.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
How do you plan to evaluate the work? Reference conducting on-going evaluation (Production
Reflections) and your final self-reflection (Evaluation), analysing your work and its outcomes.
How will this process help developing your working practices as you continue with your
study/media career?
I will be evaluating this project with an on-going evaluation approach, reflecting on what I have
done developing the project over the last couple days or even at the end of each session which
would make it a lot easier to meet my targets if I am evaluating in this format. My final self-
reflection will be an overview of what I have managed to create over the course of the project
explaining my research, planning and preparation as well as my final piece.
