Technology and education

Hinweis der Redaktion

  1. Merriam Webster dictionary com defines technology as: the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area”
  2. Dictionary. com defines technology as:” the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.”
  3. 1. Do you believe that scholastic institutions are gearing learning tools based on technology? 2. would you agree on disagree that technology is hindering the learning of students?  3. Do you believe scholastic institutions should make more of an effort to “Integrate technology in their curriculum? 4. Would you agree that teachers who do not know how to function technology hinder the learning of students?  5. Based on the research I found that individuals believe that computer based curriculum hindered from students learning, what are your thoughts on that?
  4. 6. do you believe that it is important for teachers to be engaged and enthusiastic about the technology in order for the student to want to partake in the assignments that deal with technology? 7. In your personal opinion do you education believe technology has helped enhance the education process? 8. Do you believe schools should make more of an effort to promote technological devices within the classroom? 9. In the amount of time you have been in education, would you agree or disagree that technology has become more of a priority in the classroom? 10. what are some ways you believe educators can evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of technology on the learning of students?
  5. When asked whether or not Dr.Berning believed that technology is hindering the learning of students he explained : “ I disagree. The research paradigm for educational technology is outdated and does not really fit a situation where the technology is rapidly changing. Ed tech research is a moving target”
  6. When asked Do you believe scholastic institutions should make more of an effort to “Integrate technology in their curriculum? Dr. Berning explained :I think we should make more of an effort to determine the Appropriate Use of technology and where it brings value—not cram it into existing paradigm. My model for technology is as follows: Stage One: Build a solid and reliable infrastructure—people, cables, ahrdware, processes etc. Stage Two: Modernize Classrooms and Offices giving traditional teachers the best tools we can Stage Three: Implement workflow and data tools (modern student information systems, business information systems) Stage Four: Implement Universal Access by exploiting the disruptive nature of technology – see Christensen’s book.
  7. When asked what are some ways you believe educators can evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of technology on the learning of students ? Dr. Berning explained By measuring what value-add it brings in addition to traditional paradigms.   You seem to be trying to determine if technology can be a value in traditional learning. The answer is yes, if appropriately integrated. But if we stop with simply computerizing the status quo, we have missed a tremendous opportunity to utilize the power of technology
  8. When asked whether or not Mr.Holland believed that technology is hindering the learning of students he explained :He believes that technology is doing both. He believes when a student goes home and uses social media networks hinders there learning at their point and interferes with their education. He believes the students have to manage their own time. He believes that the student learns when the learning guide leads their learning. He believes that technology helps students when they are putting their ideas to work. He believes that sites such as Wikipedia when students copy and paste information at that point hinders the learning of students. He believes students need to conceptualize information they learn and they need to be able to represent their own thoughts and ideas and instead of other individuals thoughts and ideas. He believes technology can allow us to be superficial instead of going beyond the surface.
  9. When asked Do you believe scholastic institutions should make more of an effort to “Integrate technology in their curriculum? Mr. Holland explained :He says absolutely. He believes this generation is only progressing with technology. He believes that institutions can either friend technology or become obsulte. He states that institutions have to learn how to work with technology so that students and institutions get the best of both.
  10. When asked what are some ways you believe educators can evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of technology on the learning of students ? Mr. Holland explained: He doesn’t believe you can do that. He believes that there has to be quite of evaluation done to evaluate the outcome. One of the things the school district is doing now state standardized students online. What the district has evaluated is students who are taking their test online they are doing a bit better than students who are taking paper copy standardized test. He believes that schools might move toward kindle books in the near future.
  11. When asked whether or not Mrs. Alcala believed that technology is hindering the learning of students she explained :Disagree; in the Carrollton Farmers Branch Independent School District we are high tech. The computers in the schools within our district are replaced every three years. The school district has a technology on every campus to help us work out any glitches immediate and train us on the latest technological tools. There is also a help desk available to all staff members in case of any technological problems.
  12. When asked Do you believe scholastic institutions should make more of an effort to “Integrate technology in their curriculum? Mrs. Alcala explained Yes, many new textbooks and resources lend it to computer programs to enhance books and the curriculum. We know that we must compete with what technology tools students’ use out side of the classroom. Our also offers a virtual middle and high campus were students may take online classes for credit. :
  13. When asked what are some ways you believe educators can evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of technology on the learning of students ? Mrs. Alcala explained: One way to evaluate the effect of technology on the learning of students is to compare test scores and teaching methods of teachers who do or do not make an effort to incorporate technology in their curriculum. Another to evaluate is to see how enthusiastic students appear to be when going in to their classrooms and using technology.
  14. In the article it explains "For one thing there is a shortage of systematic research on the impact of technology on teaching and learning”. This only affirms that technology is effecting secondary education whether individuals want to believe it or not.
  15. In the article Jennifer Lewington also notes that “We’re allowing information technology to drive the process’ said Martia Moll, head of research and technology for the Canadian Teachers Federation”. This helps prove that technology is becoming a major factor in classrooms of scholastic institutions of today.
  16. Lewington continues to explain in the article that “Those who have surveyed the research literature on the impact of technology in the classroom report ambivalent findings”. This particular quote helps demonstrate that there is not mucy evidence to help prove the impact of technology on education.
  17. The article further explains “Students complain that it takes tie to search fro material on the Internet. Teachers say some Internet sites disappear unexpectedly. Since few schools have the latest technology, there are delays in making Internet connections and other technological glitches that frustrate the main task of teaching and learning”. This specific piece in the article affirms that technology does hinder the educational process at times when technological malfunctions occur.
  18. Lastly, Lewington helps explain that “One way to measure the value-added of technology is to define educational outcomes for students”. This supports and affirms the claim that it is important to analyze the effect of technology on secondary level education.
  19. In the Manila Bulletin it explains “There has been a lot of projects supporting technology in learning”. This helps affirm that technology does effect secondary level education in a positive way.
  20. In the Manila Bulletin it continued to explain “ Learners have changed as a result of their exposure to technology, says Greenfield, who analyzed more than 50 studies on learning and technology , including research on multitasking and the use of computers ,the Internet and video games. Her research was published in the journal of Science”. The information helps prove with empirical data that technology is becoming a major key factor in the learning and educational process for scholastic institutions.
  21. The article lastly discusses how “Wiring classrooms for Internet access does not enhance learning” Greenfield said. This piece of information helps show how technology may not have as big of an effect on learning than individuals believe.
  22. “In “Do computers help or hinder learning?” by Alison Dickie it states “ In my view’ sys Elizabeth Boyer, ‘the teacher couldn’t relate to the children who couldn’t’ relate to the technology. The year was a total waste”. This helps affirm that technology does hinder the education process at times and does get in the way of students learning.
  23. In the Dickie article it continued to explain that “Computer are one of the most anti-social activities that you can put in a young child’s environment. Says elementary school teacher Judy Nicoloff. THe explanation helps infer that technology at times prevents students from interacting with their peers and hinders them from getting the best possible learning experience.
  24. The Dickie article further explains “ The biggest problem with computer-based learning says Ron Banister vice president of the Winnipeg Teachers’ Society is the ‘software simply hasn’t kept pace with the hopes of the teachers who are using it. He says that much of the software is quite difficult to use and of questionable value”. This helps affirm that software and technology hinders scholastic institutions from teaching students the best they can.
  25. Dickie discusses also how “much of the evidence for computer-based learning is anecdotal, based only on observations by teachers or researchers. Bernhard sys it isn’t clear that children are attracted to technology because it enhances learning. It may simply be because the teacher is enthusiastic about the technology” This helps prove that technology does not hinder learning because students are intrigued to learn the lesson that they are going to be taught rather than playing with technological devices.
  26. In the Wade article it explains how “Modern technology often creates distractions in the classroom, a panel said at Harvard University on Wednesdays”. This clearly helps prove that technology does hinder students from learning in scholastic institutions.
  27. Wade also goes on to state that “When students text in class and keep laptops open, they learn less”. This helps prove that when students use technology in classrooms it gets in the way of students learning.
  28. In the article it explains how “Research literature throughout the past decade has shown that technology can enhance literacy development, impact language acquisition , provide greater access to information support learning , motivate students , and enhance their self-esteem”. The explanation helps affirm that technology helps enhance the educational process in scholastic institutions.
  29. The O’Hara/ Pritchard article touches on how “In addition to facilitating language and literacy development , technology has also had positive effects on mathematics achievement.”. This helps support the claim that technology does hinder the educational process but rather enhances the learning of students in scholastic institutions.
  30. Lastly, in the article O’Hara/Prtichard article it stated, “Technology also motivates and engages the learner, When students have a choice in their assignment see the relevancy or can self assess with teacher feedback intertwined, student motivation increases”. This helps illustrate that technology does not hinder the learning experience but rather helps challenge students to want to learn more.
  31. Based off the interviews that I did, I concluded that technology is not hindering secondary level education instead education is relying on technology more than ever. Another particular inference I made based on the interviews was scholastic institutions are continuing to implement technology throughout the classroom whether it be the students or teachers using the software. Based on the empirical data I gathered, I found that scholars do believe that technology is helping students learn and technology is going to play a major role in education now and in the future.
