Plet Installation Module
1. PLET Installation Module
A faulty welding procedure during the fabrication of Pipe Line End Terminations (short PLET)
caused a major overhauling operation in the Gulf of Mexico.
The PLET’s were to be recovered from over 1000 m water depth, overhauled and afterwards
reconnected to the pipelines by means of a full penetration welding.
For this operation a large marine contracting company required the design and fabrication of
a dedicated “temporary” construction which could be installed on top of one of their semi
submersible crane vessels
The final design included a skid holding the A&R equipment
like traction and storage winches, the power and control unit
and the hang off module. On top of the skid the workstation
and support tower are located.
Design of the complete structure was executed in The
Netherlands under supervision of Lloyd’s Register. The
majority of the fabrication was done in The Netherlands, with
some key components coming from Eastern Europe.
