In this presentation I will introduce some basic facts about Victoria and Albert Museum.

• Entrance to museum is free, support of Department
of Culture, Media and Sport

• Origins in the Great Exhibition of 1851
• Profits from the Exhibition were used to establish the Museum
• Established in 1852
• Former names- Museum of Manufactures, South Kensington Museum
• 1889 Victoria and Albert Museum (named after Queen Victoria and
her husband Prince Albert)

• Construction started during victorian period
• The museum grew rapidly – new building added

• There are over 6.5 million objects
• Focused on art (cultures of Europe, North America,
Asia and North Africa.

prints, photographs...
