1. Dear John,
You missed out on the school’s most awesome event.
I mean I know you’re in Singapore with all your studies going on, but man, you would’ve loved Spartacus. No, it isn’t a movie about a Roman Empire – it’s this interschool competition thing the school held.
We’ve been working for months, you see. Trying to get sponsors so that we’d have enough budgets for equipments, advertising, and all that. We weren’t in charge though. No, it was Year 11’s turn this year – and we’ll get our chance to prove ourselves next year.
The event was split into three days, because one simply wasn’t enough for all the games to get done. We had a basketball tournament and a soccer tournament, we also had art competitions like face painting and drawing because Spartacus stands for “Sports and Arts Day at Victory Plus”.
Anyway, on Saturday, the 22nd of January, the first rounds of the sports competitions started. There were a total of 8 basketball teams and 7 soccer teams. It took so long, that they had to continue the next day before we finally get our semi-finalists for the basketball tournament and finalists for the soccer tournament – the art competitions were over on the first day.
On the gala of the event, which was the next Saturday (29th of January to be exact) the semi-final and finals of the sports competition was held. I swear, the final for the basketball competition was so close we were all in awe when on the very last second the winning team made a three-point shoot. Even the losing team had to admit it was an amazing win!
After the competitions were all over, the award ceremony was held on the 5th floor hall. Honestly, you could say the school wasn’t as generous as other schools are when it comes to the prize money, but I guess it didn’t really matter to the winners – they were just happy for the glory.
Then there were some spectacular performances from two bands, and yes, I know how two bands sound really little for a school event like this, but hey at least we got some performers!
All in all, it was a fantastic event and it was really fun to hold. We made some connections to other schools through this event and it’s probably going to help us a lot for next year’s event – which, hopefully, if all goes well, will be even better.
How are you by the way? I was so excited to tell you about Spartacus I totally forgot to ask you how you’re doing! Write back soon, I’d like to hear all about your holiday!
Lots of love,
Nadia
