- ITM Platform is a start-up, born in 2011, and having started sales in Spain, Mexico and BrazilInception: CIOs requiring tools designed by and for them. In Spain, like in almost the entire world I guess, CIO’s are struggling to be on the Board, to be considered as a business success factor. They have limited success. We believe this is because they do not speak business language, they are not able to answer easy questions such as “how much does the CRM costs, How is the project number 56 going right now, what’s the investment made in the business goal #1?” ITM Platform is born from the vision of solving this situation.IT consultants complementing market needs.Pragmatic approach: Avoiding “no landing” theoretical models. - Our main corporate strategic goals are close related to the market needs we aim to cover, that we could represent by means of 3 levers: governance, top-down empowering and bottom-up control (we name this as 360º approach, after the well known 360º feedback management approach) and last, but not least, effective communication with projectsocialization as a key factor for sustainable success on a regular basis (that means: project by project, and service by service).IT Governance is the system by which the current and future use of IT is directed and controlled. Nowadays, it is assumed that top management is responsible for IT Governance. IT departments are organizations very “intensive” regarding projects and services: They have quite a few projects and services running, with many stakeholders around them.You could get an idea of the activity of an IT department if you know the portfolio of projects and services they are executing or planning to execute: If projects and services are like the “building bricks” for an IT department, then IT Governance would be like the “building plans” of an architect.ITM Platform provides a support for those who perform (IT) Governance, allowing them to express the business goals and to measure how projects and services are contributing to reach those goals.On the other hand, ITM Platform provides a support for those who manage IT, allowing them to control and delegate management over the plenty of projects and services due with the right cost, schedule, scope and quality objectives.Coming from IT, that’s because we talk about IT Governance. Being IT the worst scenario regarding complexity, diversity and scale on project and service management, ITM Platform is now a tool not only aimed to IT Governance, but to any other kind of corporative Governance: the more “management intensity” the best utility.We say that ITM Platform provides a 360º approach by integrating the two ways for corporate management of projects and services (that is, top-down and bottom-up):Top-down means that CIOs have to translate their decisions to the execution levels effectively, and also, in a regular basis, corporate management have to get the best information, in a timely and efficient manner, in order to control performance and ensure business alignment. With ITM Platform, CIOs will have a tool to support the strategic decision process regarding projects and services. They will be able to decide, for instance, what business goals need to be considered, how to weight business goals, what is the best selection of projects and services to reach those business goals, what is the relative importance of each project or service, what project need to be anticipated, delayed, canceled, etc.Bottom-up means that those in charge of execution –IT managers- will be able to proactively submit proposals to CIO, regarding the opportunity and convenience of new projects and services. ITM Platform will allow to plan, control, delegate and coordinate efforts on every project and service, and also will allow to report to CIO on performance, using the executive language they are used to, summing up information on KPIs, using executive dashboards, avoiding technical language and no meaningful data.Finally, we say that ITM Platform allows project socialization. This takes into consideration that successful project management (that is, consistently delivering on time, on cost, on scope, meeting quality standards, and properly managing expectations of stakeholders) has more to do with sociology than with technology. Projects usually don’t fail because insufficient planning or poor reporting. If a selection does not belong to the Efficient Frontier, this means that there is other solution more valuable at the same budget, or other solution at the same budget but more valuable.With ITM Platform Managers could perform different analysis by interpreting differently the pressures of business and market. This is performed by means of scenarios. When a given selection is decided formally, ITM Platform allows a batch process, saving lots of efforts having to approve or cancel projects and services one by one (that is also possible, of course).Other PPM tools allow scenario management and graphical representations as well. However, in many of them, this process ends up when the approval decision is taken (usually during Q4). ITM Platform provides day to day detailed management, allowing Managers to have a continuous accurate information on consolidated execution and business contribution.
