This document outlines the requirements and structure for the analysis section of an ITGS internal assessment project. It explains that the analysis should include: (1) the proposed solution, (2) requirements specification, (3) specific performance criteria, and (4) justification of the chosen solution. It provides guidance and examples for each part to clearly describe the proposed database solution and justify how it meets the client's needs. Students are instructed to finalize their analysis and ensure their criteria form is up to date.

2. Objectives for Today
• Identify your chosen solution
• Clearly describe the features / functions
your solution must have to meet the client’s
needs
• Justify your chosen solution

4. Criterion B
• Four parts:
– Proposed Solution
– Requirements Specification
– Specific Performance Criteria
– Justification of the Chosen Solution

5. Part I: Proposed Solution
Identify the solutions you considered. Clearly identify
your final choice. Bullet points is fine.
For example:
Mr. Happy and I considered:
• Creating an improved paper-based system
• Using a spreadsheet to maintain the data
• Organising the data in a relational database
After discussion, we decided a relational database
would best solve his problems.

6. Part II: Requirements Specification
IT System Requirements
What hardware and software (including versions) will be needed to run
the final solution?
System Interaction
Must your solution work with any other systems?
Input / Output Requirements
What data must be input / output from the system? Be specific: not just
‘student details’ but ‘student name’, ‘student date of birth’. Include:
• Input (by student during creation)
• Input (by client / user during use)
• Output
Processing
What functions must your solution perform?
Security
What security features will be implemented?

7. Part III: Specific Performance Criteria
Clear bullet points that outline the specific
things your solution must need in order to be
considered ‘complete’. These must relate to
the client’s needs and must be specific and
measurable (you will assess yourself in
criterion E).

8. Part III: Specific Performance Criteria
My solution must:
• Work well
• Be fast
• Look nice
• Be secure
Yuck! How are you going to measure these??

9. Part III: Specific Performance Criteria
My solution must:
• Appear the same on all major web
browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari)
• Provide my client’s contact information
• Have a consistent look across all pages
• Have a password-protected section for
clients
Much better! These can easily be assessed

10. Part III: Justification of Chosen Solution
• Explain how your solution addresses each
point in the Initial Investigation.
• Compare your chosen solution with one or two
other solutions you considered. Say why those
solutions would not solve the client's problem.
Say why your solution is the best. Always refer
to the problem explained in Criteria A.
• Describe the software/hardware you will need
to use for the project. Justify this choice by
referring to: your skills, your clients skills,
availability, and compatibility with the client's
current hardware and software.

11. Next Steps
• Finish writing your Analysis and double-
check it: remember, you will assess yourself
on your specific performance criteria.
• Keep your Criteria C up to date (all columns)
All ITGS project work must use the forms provided. Do
not change the file names or the file format!
