(19th-25th October 2015) AND A DIVE INTO THE ITALIAN CINEMA (15th

The “Italian Language Week in the World” is an initiative promoted by the Italian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the “Accademia della Crusca” (1), under the
Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic, that goes on from 2001. During this week,
Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes organize various events to promote the Italian
language as a language of classic and contemporary culture.
Each year this special week has a different theme around which lectures, exhibitions, performances
and concerts evolve. The theme of this edition, L’italiano della musica, la musica dell’Italiano (The
Italian of Music, the music of Italian) is dedicated to the extraordinary quality of musicality of the
Italian Language, as explained in the video at the following link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhjxDuSGutw
On this occasion, the Embassy of Italy, in collaboration with the Cyprus Committee of the “Società
Dante Alighieri” and the Foundation T. Kanthos, has organized a concert “Sull’aria che soave” that
will take place on Tuesday 20th October at 8.30 p.m. at the Centre of Arts T. Kanthos. After a brief
introduction by Prof. Gaia Zaccagni on the Italian opera tradition, in which words are linked to
music, the evening will be a tribute to Italian music, edited by the Cypriot Conductor Ayis
Ioannidis, professor at the School of Music Art, and his best students. Famous arias for piano and
voice by various compositors (Vivaldi, Verdi, Bellini, Donizetti, Puccini) will be performed. (see
the attached invitation).
Moreover, for all those who love the Italian cinema and would like to be updated about recent
productions, Italian movies will be screened at the University of Cyprus on Thursday 15th
October
at 8.00 p.m. and at the University of Nicosia, in collaboration with the Friends of Cinema Society
and Notoria International, from Monday 19th October to Friday 30th October 2015 (please see the
attached program).

will take place in Limassol at Rialto Theatre from 17th
to 23th October with three Italian short films:

che gli permette di iniziare a
sognare: un lavoro in una
società di noleggio auto come
autista. Riescono a conoscersi
bene poiché il primo compito di
Marco è quello di portare Gina
a un appuntamento, e a causa
di un ritardo, devono
condividere l'intera giornata.
Questo viaggio li porterà dalla
periferia al centro della città, e
servirà ad entrambi per

They are enabled to know each
other since his first duty is to
drive Gina to an appointment,
and given a delay, they have to
share the whole day. This

their experiences and think
about a future that has already
begun.
