Halloween is celebrated on October 31st and originated from ancient Celtic harvest festivals. It is commonly celebrated in countries including Ireland, the UK, Canada, Mexico, and parts of Latin America and Spain. Traditionally, celebrations involved trick-or-treating, costume parties, bobbing for apples, and dressing up as witches, vampires, ghosts and other monsters.

• Principally in the United Kingdom.
• It’s also celebrated in Mexico, Latin
America, and Spain.
• In Ireland and Canada, which is the
most frightening and superstitious
time of the year, with trick-or-
treating, costume parties, and fun for
all ages.

October since the
5th century BC.
• For the Celtic
Ireland the
summer ended
this day.

4. Trick or Treat.
• The custom of trick or
treating has several origins.
• The Druids believed that the
dead would play tricks and
cause panic and destruction.
• An old Irish peasant practice
called for going door to door
to collect money and food,
for preparing the festival of
St. Columb Kill.
• Also a ninth-century
European custom called
souling. On November 2, All
Souls Day, early Christians
would walk from village to
village begging for "soul
cakes“.

5. Bobbing for apples
• Is a game often played at Halloween. The
game is played by filling a tub or a large
basin with water and putting apples in the
water. Players then try to catch one with
their teeth. They can’t use arms.

6. Witches.
• The witch is a central symbol of Halloween.
• The name comes from the Saxon wica, meaning
wise one.
• Some witches rode on horseback, but poor witches
went on foot and carried a broom.
