A For & a Against Essay
1. A FOR AND AGAINST ESSAY
It presents the advantages and disadvantages of a topic. It is a formal
piece of writing and looks at the topic from opposing points of view. It is
not an opportunity to focus on your personal point of view. If your want to
state your opinion, you can do this in the concluding paragraph. Do not use
informal language, but you should use connectors and linking phrases and
the passive where possible.
STRUCTURE
INTRODUCTION: It presents the topic to be discussed. It does not
incluye your personal opinión, only general points.
SECOND PARAGRAPH: It presents the points in favour of the topic along
with any justification (reasons and examples).
THIRD PARAGRAPH: It offers the points against the topic and also some
justification.
CONCLUSION: It offers a balanced summary of the two opposing points
of view and can include your personal opinion.
