2. London is full of interesting places. Some are very old
like the Tower of London and some a very modern,
such as the Olympic Park.
3. Construction on the Tower of London first
began in 1066 by William the Conqueror
with others adding parts to the building
over time.
The Tower of London has
served many different
purposes; castle, prison,
armoury, treasury,
observatory, menagerie and
nowadays it is a museum.
4. Kings and Queens have both been imprisoned
in the Tower. Some were executed and some
were murdered. Queen Anne Boleyn, the
second wife of Henry VIII was
beheaded at the Tower. People claim
to have seen her ghost walking
around the grounds with her head
under her arm.
5. Also at the Tower, you can find the Crown Jewels
of the Queen.
6. Outside the Tower are lots of Ravens. They are kept at
the Tower due to a 17th century legend that if they
leave the monarchy and Britain will fall.
7. The Tower of London has also hosted many exotic
animals, including;
Polar Bears - Leopards
Elephants - Monkeys
Bears - Zebra
Lions - Jaguars
Emus - Kangaroos
All the animals that used to live in the Tower, can now be
found in London Zoo.
9. The Olympic Park in London, was built to host
the 2012 Summer Olympics.
It measures 2.3 km square of land.
It was home to the Olympic Stadium, Aquatics
Centre and the
Velodrome.
10. The Olympic Stadium
was the area of the
park where all the
athletic events took
place, as well as the
opening and closing
ceremonies.
11. In the Aquatic Centre is where all indoor
water sports took place, such as swimming
and diving.
