Dolls:
Mothers gave their children faceless corn husk dolls to teach them
that the way they looked is not as important as who they are inside.
Bowls and trays:
Made from bark from elm trees

The Green Corn Festival:
One of the oldest First Nation celebrations
Celebrated in August
Lasted several days
They gave offerings of tobacco and thanks to the Great Spirit
They had dances, feasts, and games
Mid-Winter Festival:
Six-day festival
Celebrated at the beginning of the New Year
Meant to give thanks to the creator
People cleaned their houses and talked about their dreams and how they
guided them through out the year
They visited each other, danced, ate and played games

Celebrated between March and September
They sang, danced and visited family
They performed the Hoop Dance

Water Drum:
Made from a hallow log
Water was placed at the bottom of the log
Rawhide was stretched over the top
Bark Rattle:
Pebbles were put inside chunks of bark
9. Oral Tradition
Families gathered around fire and old
people told stories
Some stories explained history, some
explained the creation of the natural
world and other demonstrated the
difference between right and wrong
behavior.
