ABC Care Home is the centre of health and social care in London and caters the needs of
weak and helpless people. The servicer users belong to different ethnic groups and religious
background and have different physical and medical needs. The role of a care worker working in
ABC Care Home has been assigned.

This policy has been implemented at ABC Care Home according to which it is the obligation of
the health care worker to adhere to the strict procedures and policies so that abuse and neglect of

is required to be followed in ABC Care Home needs to work on the principle of equality and

rights of colleagues, the procedure should be transparent (Amado and McBride, 2002). The
procedure starts from scheduling the appointment of patients with practitioners. After this, the
practitioners are being selected on the basis of vacancy and daily work schedule not on the basis
of their religion. Thus, equality is promoted in this procedure which is helpful in promoting the
rights of both clients and colleagues.
In addition to this, practitioners at Care Home are responsible for the services they
provide to the individuals and it is their responsibility to protect their rights and also ensure their

according to which Mrs. M is a service user in the residential care home of 67 years of age. She
is having lung cancer and likes to smoke and drink whisky and despite the advice of doctors she
cannot cease this habit. Recently, Mrs. M has been suffering from acute pains and the painkillers
are not working effectively.
The ethical dilemmas that have arisen while providing support to Mrs. M are that doctors
have refused to prescribe stronger painkillers to her as this would have serious impacts on her
health but the staff cannot see Mrs. M suffering. The dilemma is whether to provide her the
painkillers or not. It is difficult to leave the lady suffering with pain and on the same it is not
ethical to give her those pills which can prove harmful for her. Such type of ethical conflicts may
arise while imparting care to the clients. Furthermore, there can be a case of vulnerable people
suffering from infectious disease, in such a case, service providers may witness ethical dilemma
that whether to treat that person or not. Thus, in ABC Care Home conflicts may arise in such

The Human Rights Act 1998 explains that every individual at health and social care and
express their views regarding the kind of treatment they want. They also have the right to get

legislations and rules within the system and work as a social care in ABC Care Home. One such
theory is social learning theory which explains that learning through observation help in planning
of care plans for the service users. The theory assumes that with help of understanding the
importance of learning through observation a care worker will be able to properly plan for the
clients and provide them the best and efficient care who belong to varied backgrounds and
cultures (Beresford, 2006). Another theory that influences the work of care worker at ABC Care
Home is anti-oppressive theory which pertains to the style of professionalism and with it worker

can emphasize on his role of social justice and imply individual rights and interests getting
service at the care home.
Another important theory in this aspect is anti-discriminatory practice on the basis of
which care worker at ABC Care Home refers his work as a social practice that renders services

and improvements related to care to them by the service providers. This has also lead to the
inclusion of more efficient care givers in this field for the care home which ultimately lead to
enhancement of services for the clients in ABC Care Home (VanVactor, 2012). Social process
involves interaction among people which will be positive for ABC Care Home as learning can be
facilitated through this. Nonetheless, there can also be negative impacts of the same as it will
increase disease due to human interaction. In the given scenario also it can be analyzed. In this
care home, all types of people come to avail the service due to which vulnerable people can
become a reason of giving less preference by other service users (Beresford, 2006). Because of
the social processes, more and more people make use of services of health and social care unit
and so this has gained the attention of NHS due to which policies are being reformed by it.

enhanced services are provided to them at ABC Care Home. The effectiveness of this practice
can be known from the fact that with this, there establishes a strong working relationships

between the practitioners and the organization. With this, there is an increased sharing of
information and facts which lead to better designing of plans for the clients. This results in
improvements in care being imparted. Inter professionals who work at ABC Care Home mainly
include the medical expertise, nurses and senior nurses, care workers as well as professionals
who provide meditation and stress free sessions to clients. The professional also include family
members of clients, various community agencies and other voluntary and non voluntary agencies
who work towards betterment of service users.

For this, it is given that findings of Care Quality Commission about ABC Care Home
were not according to the standards and it has failed in certain criteria. As a manager of the
organization, there is now the need to resolve the failings that are being mentioned in the report
given by CQC.
4.1
As a manager of ABC Care Home, I will now ensure implementation of rules and
regulations and check on regularly their practice within the care home. The ethical code of
conduct and norms will also be checked on regular basis and will be taken note of. I will take the
responsibility of having free and open flow of communication with my colleagues as well as the
service users to know their views and ideas regarding the services being rendered. It will be my
duty to take regular feedback from care workers and clients so that it can be ensured that suitable

measures are being taken so as to protect the service users from any kind of risk or abuse
(Amado and McBride, 2002).
I will take the responsibility of recruiting and selecting a professional and well qualified
staff from outside which has the capability in understanding the needs of the people and their
complex behaviour. In addition to this, I will also take the responsibility to organize proper
training and development programs for the staff so that their skills in care are enhanced. It will
also be my duty to report to CQC of any serious injuries or accidents at ABC Care Home and all
records of such incidents are well recorded in the care home also. I will also ensure to hire a
monitoring unit outside the care home which can review and monitor the performance and
efficiency of employees (Birnbaum, 2012). Apart from this, I can also make contribution to meet
good policy requirements by conducting regular meetings and review sessions with staff
members and care workers. This can help in getting reviews about the ways in which services are
being provided to the patients and also take suggestions and find ways in which services can be
made effective further.

As the manager some negative points regarding my role were that earlier I was not able to
properly frame policies and implement them at the workplace. It was required of me to monitor
and observe the care workers and their behaviour towards the service users. With this, my

contribution was negative as i was also not able to ensure safety and protection to the clients in
proper manner.
As the manager of ABC Care Home my own contribution to development of health and social
care policy for the organization. I will make efforts in protecting the individuals from
exploitation and abuse. It needs to ensure appropriate policies that are mentioned in legislations
given by NHS. I will contribute in administration of ethical practices by the practitioners towards
the service users so that they are not ill treated and are protected from risks (Day and Wigens,
2006).
I will contribute to implement policy and take reasonable steps that will help in
identifying the possibility of discrimination of any individual and take necessary steps to prevent.
It will be ensured that all support measures necessary at the care home are applied and followed
successfully by the care workers so that equality of rights and interests of all can be ensured.
Local needs of population of the region will be identified and policies will be implemented
according to those provided by NHS (Ericson and et.al., 2001). Along with this, for effective
development and implementation of policy for ABC Care Home proper guidance from local
authority will be taken and reference from guidelines of NHS will be followed and their
effectiveness will be checked regularly to ensure that all procedures are being followed
accordingly.
4.3
In order to develop my own contributions as a manager in meeting good practice
requirements can be in the form of professional development of my own self as well as the staff
of ABC Care Home (Harlen, 2005). It can be recommended that appropriate planning and
delivery of care should be ensured according to the individual rights and interests to the service
users. There is a need to properly identify the risks and threats associated with health and
security of clients and for this regular monitoring and reviewing of systems and procedures
should be carried out at ABC Care Home. It was found that ABC Care Home was not able to
control the activities like misbehave and abusing. Therefore, service providers should take
reasonable steps to protect people. I should also make necessary arrangements for protected
people and ensuring all legal compliances like reporting major activities to CQC (Ericson and
et.al., 2001).

The behaviour and activities of staff towards the clients should be checked on regularly
so that clients are not exploited. Responses and complaints of the service users need to be given
special preference and should be given immediate responses to clear their complaints
(Mendelstem, 2009). Feedbacks and views of clients on their service should be taken regularly so
that improvements can be brought in. In addition to this, it is suggested that proper recruitment
and selection process be followed in taking qualified staff and effective training should be
provided to them o timely basis (Moon, 2008).

From the present report, it can be concluded that health and social care practice in ABC
Care Home involve many challenging roles and responsibilities as it deals with people belonging
to varied groups and cultures. It is important for health care practitioners of the organization to
identify and understand the individual needs and plan for their care according to them. The
policies of health and social care are also important to implement within the place so that
effective services can be rendered.
