5. ffective leadership is essential to providing high-
Equality dental care and improving patient outcomes.
Dental leaders who can inspire and guide their team
in delivering the best possible care can make a significant
impact on patient health and well-being.
Firstly, leaders in dentistry can help to create a culture of
patient-centered care. By emphasizing the importance of
putting the patient first, dental leaders can encourage their
team to prioritize patient needs and preferences. This can
lead to more personalized care, increased patient
satisfaction, and better treatment outcomes.
Secondly, dental leaders can drive innovation and
technology adoption in their practice. Leaders who are
willing to embrace new technologies and techniques can
help to improve the accuracy and efficiency of dental
treatments, leading to better outcomes for patients. For
example, digital imaging and 3D printing technology can
provide more accurate diagnoses and treatment plans, while
laser dentistry can reduce pain and healing time for patients.
Thirdly, leaders in dentistry can improve patient outcomes
by promoting a culture of continuous learning and
improvement. By providing ongoing education and training
opportunities for their team, leaders can ensure that their
team is up-to-date with the latest research and best
practices. This can lead to more effective treatments,
reduced complications, and improved patient outcomes.
Finally, dental leaders can create a supportive and
collaborative work environment that fosters teamwork and
communication. When team members can work together
effectively, they can provide more coordinated and
comprehensive care to patients. This can lead to improved
treatment outcomes and reduced risks of complications.
In conclusion, effective leadership in dentistry can have a
significant impact on patient outcomes. By creating a
patient-centered culture, driving innovation, promoting
continuous learning and fostering teamwork and
communication, dental leaders can improve the quality of
care provided to their patients. By prioritizing the needs and
preferences of patients, dental leaders can ensure that their
patients receive the best possible care, leading to improved
health and well-being.

Dr. Haddad's dental proficiency resonates with a global
audience. Thus, it doesn't come as a surprise that patients
travel from across the country to visit his dental office,
Rochester Advanced Dentistry, which has a reputation for
success in treating the most severe dental cases.
Dr. Haddad takes pride in his highly trained team of experts
who work together to provide exceptional services that set
the practice apart from others. They play an important role
in the office's signature services:
Ÿ Cosmetic Dentistry
Ÿ TMJ Disorders & Headaches
Ÿ Sleep Apnea and Snoring
Ÿ Implant Dentistry
Ÿ Sedation Dentistry
While several dental graduates finish their studies believing
that they have the latest dental techniques, Dr. Haddad
believes that it is just the beginning. To be an exception in
the industry, one must invest in modern technologies and
advanced training that best aligns with patients' needs for
dental care. Continuing Education is the key to Rochester
Advanced Dentistry giving them the skills and ability to
care for all patients with the highest standard of care.
Let's dive in to know to learn about Dr. Haddad's journey
to becoming an exceptional leader in the field of dentistry.
His Source of Inspiration
Dr. Haddad's inspiration for venturing into dentistry came
from his social and family interaction, which are his main
priorities in life. "I have always been a people person," he
says. "I realized early on that my occupation needed to be
involved with people and how I could positively impact
their lives."
He thus gravitated towards all the sciences in college, but
also majored in Psychology, which gave him the
background and knowledge of how important it was to
understand the emotions and thoughts in the human brain.
He has also always enjoyed and been interested in art such
as drawing, painting, and creating. "When I realized that
Dentistry was the perfect combination of science, artistry,
and working with people, I knew this was meant to be my
career path," says Dr. Haddad.
His Journey So Far
Reflecting on his journey towards becoming a part of
Rochester Advanced Dentistry, Dr. Haddad mentions, "I
joined the practice of Dr. Kurt Doolin in 2001 and soon
became his business partner. It was my goal to grow our
practice and build it into the most sought-after dental office
in the area for advanced dentistry. With the proper training,
branding and marketing, Rochester Advanced Dentistry was
born."
He continues, "Since then we have also expanded. Today I
own two other practices that are solely focused on treating
TMJ and Sleep disorders. The Michigan Center for TMJ
and Sleep Wellness and the Michigan Head & Neck
Institute which are the leading practices in the state of
Michigan for treating patients suffering from TMJ
symptoms and Sleep Apnea. We also have patients who
travel from other states based on our reputation for success
in treating the most severe TMJ and Sleep cases."
Dr. Haddad is a very disciplined and self-motivated person.
His passion and ambition to build the most elite practice are
what drives him. His vision and culture, along with the
support of his team, is what sets his practices apart from all
other practices in the country. Dr. Haddad lectures
nationally and is a dental expert in Cosmetic dentistry, TMJ
and Sleep disorders, and full mouth reconstruction.

13. Dr. Haddad's Roles and Operations
Dr. Haddad is the Owner and Chief Visionary Officer of the
organization. But he is also an expert practitioner who
provides the means of dentistry that only 1% of dentists in
the world can provide. "Our office has elite skills and next-
level training and experience that very few dental offices
can offer. All the doctors in our organization have been
trained to provide these advanced services. This includes
expertise in TMJ and Sleep Disorders, Full Mouth
Reconstruction, Dental Implant surgery and restorations,
and Cosmetic transformations and smile design with
porcelain veneers," adds Dr. Haddad.
Today, Rochester Advanced Dentistry has become known
nationally as a destination office for the highest level of
dental treatment and services. All doctors in this
organization have been highly trained to provide these
advanced services. This allows the organization to place
patients in the doctor's chair that is the best fit as far as
skillset and personality are concerned. "We truly offer a

14. personalized and custom dental experience to all of our
patients. "We want to be known as the experts in the area
for comprehensive full mouth and cosmetic dentistry,
including TMJ and Sleep disorders, and implant dentistry,"
highlights Dr. Haddad.
Keys to Excellence in Dentistry
Dr. Haddad's key to excellence in dentistry is based on two
things: Firstly, continuing education and advanced training.
Secondly, investing in and utilizing the most modern
technology.
The dental field has changed drastically in the past couple
of decades and, "In my opinion, if you are not continually
seeking out courses on the latest advances in dentistry then
your patient care will suffer," says Dr. Haddad. He
highlights the idea that most people believe that when a
dentist graduates from dental school, they are trained in the
"latest and greatest" dental techniques, however, this could
not be further from the truth. Dental schools provide the
basic education and training, and then it is up to the dentist
to truly begin their journey of learning "after" dental school.
"I have over 1,500 hours of advanced continuing education
since graduating from dental school. These residencies and
additional training in TMJ and Sleep Disorders, Dental
Implants, Cosmetic Dentistry and Full Mouth
Reconstruction set our practice apart from any other office
in the state of Michigan. We even have patients travel in
from across the country seeking our expertise for their
advanced dental needs."
But it would be impossible to provide the exceptional
dental treatment that the organization provides without the
latest technology. "Our offices are equipped with 3D Cone
Beam technology that allows the evaluation of TMJ
anatomy for proper diagnosis, assessment of airways for
sleep breathing disorders, and the exact precision for the
surgical placement of dental implants. We also utilize
computerized jaw tracking, muscular relaxation technology
and electromyography measurement of facial and neck
musculature to treat the most severe TMJ and Sleep
disorders," says Dr. Haddad.
"We are the only offices in the state of Michigan that have
all these modalities and equipment and are trained to use
them in these areas of dentistry. It is this combination of
advanced training and the latest technology that truly
separates our offices from others in the dental profession,"
he adds.
Addressing Patients' Anxiety
Dr. Haddad has taken his organization's service to the next
level by accommodating fearful and highly anxious
patients. Dental treatment is number two on the list of fears
among people in a national study. The number one fear is
public speaking, dental fear is number two and death is
number three. This is why patients' fear is taken seriously
and thus Dr. Haddad ensures to do everything in his power
to alleviate these fears and give patients the best dental
experience they could ever imagine.
Dr. Haddad's office is certified in Oral Conscious Sedation
and has specific regimens that provide the patient with pain-
free, sedation dentistry. Based on the patient's level of fear,
the organization has different options for sedation that will
give these patients exactly what they need to have the most
positive dental experience possible. Most patients who
undergo the organization's sedation dentistry have little
memory of the actual procedure and realize the enormous
improvement that has occurred in the dental field.
Treating Snoring and Apnea
For over 20 years, Dr. Haddad's office has been treating
snoring and sleep apnea more than any other dental office in
Michigan. Dr. Haddad teaches and trains other doctors on
how to treat snoring, sleep apnea, and other sleep-breathing
disorders. These conditions can have a huge impact on a
patient's overall health including an increase in heart
attacks, strokes, high blood pressure and diabetes. In
addition, patients with a sleep breathing disorder are

their dentition, leading to tooth loss and TMJ disorders
including symptoms like headaches, migraines, jaw pain,
ear pain, tinnitus, and vertigo.
Dr. Haddad's Key to Efficient Dentistry Operations
"The key to efficient operations is a highly trained team and
having a culture of continually wanting to grow and
improve," highlights Dr. Haddad. "If we do fail with a
patient experience, we learn from it and find solutions to
avoid the same result in the future. We start and end each
day with a 30-minute meeting. This is something we
implemented years ago, and it has become essential to our
success. We plan for the day in our morning meeting,
discussing patients and logistics of patient flow, and
identifying any issues that may occur for us to avoid them.
At our afternoon meeting, we talk through the entire day
and discuss any problems that happened and how we can
learn from these events. We can then further discuss these
issues at one of our bi-monthly meetings and present
solutions to improve our protocols and keep our systems as
predictable and efficient as possible," he shares.
Words of Wisdom
To the people considering dentistry as their profession, Dr.
Haddad advises the same as he does to the doctors who
attend his courses: "Invest in yourselves and invest in your
team. To be an expert in any area of dentistry, you must
seek out the highest level of continuing education across the
country. The advances that have been made in dental
techniques and technology are staggering and can be
overwhelming. However, I have always believed that it was
my obligation to my patients to learn as much as I can and
expose myself and my team to these innovations so that I
can be the best dentist I can be. And it is crucial to the
success of the dental office to have your team trained as
well. Invest in your team and you will take your success to
the next level and maintain that elite status throughout your
career."

Providing Premium Dental Products at Affordable Prices
Dental hygiene is the most basic form of
care you can give yourself in the midst of
other priorities. But apparently, there are
millions of Americans whose everyday
troubles—as small as they might seem—are
painful teeth problems, as dental care has become
an unreachable out-of-pocket expense.
Bryan Markiet, the CEO is primarily focused on
turning dental care affordable, by driving the dental
supply prices down for dentists. "When dentists could
find affordable good or better quality dental products,
that are just as good as the expensive brands, they'd, in
turn, charge their patients less," he says.
At Cargus International Inc., he aligns his business
strategy with a full range of dental products that are
affordable, good quality and readily available at a time
when large manufacturers have become exclusive.
In an interview with Insights Care, Bryan shares his journey
starting from following the footsteps of his parents to
enabling affordable dental care for millions of Americans
across the country.
Following are the excerpts from the interview:
Kindly tell us the source of inspiration. What led you to
venture into dentistry?
Cargus International was started by my parents, Carol and
Gus. Hence the name Cargus. I followed in their footsteps
to help drive the family business forward.
Brief us about yourself and shed some light on your
journey towards becoming a part of the company.
In college, I studied a variety of subjects, but never really
settled on anything I was passionate about. Stepping into
the family business felt more like an obligation but at the
same time a great opportunity.
What roles and operations do you play at the company?
How do you contribute to delivering the type of care
that patients need, those who suffer from issues related
to teeth?
I am the CEO of Cargus, and my primary focus is
developing dental products that are just as good or better
quality than expensive name brands at a fraction of the cost.
My contribution is driving dental supply prices down for
dentists, in turn, they can charge patients less and more
people can afford quality dental care. Unfortunately, there
are still 40-50 Million Americans who do not visit a dentist
regularly.
Which ones, do you believe, are some of the tools and
tactics implied to best support dental treatment? What
sets you apart from others who are in the profession?
We are not a public company that is only looking out for
profits and the bottom line. Instead, we are in a unique
position to help dental offices lower costs without
compromising the quality of the products they use. We are
helping to make going to dentists regularly more affordable
for everyone.
What are your thoughts on some of the common dental
conflicts that clients experience today?
The dental industry is changing. There are more DSOs
(group practices) than ever before and this segment is
growing. Some of these groups can make patients feel more
like a number. Many patients may miss their relationships
with their hygienist and Dentist.
The 5 Most Influen al Leaders in Den stry 2023
17| March 2023|www.insightscare.com
20. What specific R&D operations are you leading at
present? Why do you find those essential?
Research and development are critical components of what
we do. We have launched over 200 dental products over the
last 15 years. These are critical to driving the cost of
dentistry down so that more people have access to dental
care. Skipping dental visits can result in Arterial plaque
build-up that leads to diseases such as angina, heart attack,
or potentially heart failure.
What endeavors are you currently pursuing to improve
treatment and care measures for your patients?
Currently, we are working on an all-natural consumer line
of products including toothpaste, mouthwash and whitening
products. These are essential for people with allergies, or
that have sensitivities to mouthwash with alcohol, or
over-the-counter kinds of toothpaste.
What are some of the challenges you face when
conducting operations and how do you turn them into
opportunities for growth?
Inflation has put a strain on all aspects of our business. As
costs increase across the board, a careful analysis of our
P&L can sometimes actually result in savings from doing a
deep dive into expenses such as labor, shipping charges,
credit card charges, and more.
What advice would you like to give to budding
entrepreneurs and enthusiasts who desire to venture
into dentistry?
Bring a unique value proposition. This industry is
dominated by a few key players and is difficult to penetrate.
But if you are determined, have a unique value proposition
and have a strong desire to help people you can succeed.
Share with us a few awards/recognition that may
highlight your position in the market.
Many of our MARK3 products have been recognized by the
most prestigious testing facility in the USA. With results
being compared to expensive name brands with a lower
price point.

Pice
Effec ve
The Key to
Management
ental practice management is a critical component
Dof running a successful dental office. It involves a
range of responsibilities, including managing staff,
finances and patient care. While it may seem like the focus
should be solely on the technical aspects of the job, the
truth is that effective dental practice management requires
something more fundamental-leading with compassion.
What is Compassionate Leadership?
Compassionate leadership involves putting people first,
being empathetic, and caring about the well-being of others.
It's about understanding that the people who work in your
practice are more than just employees; they are human
beings with unique needs and challenges.
Compassionate leadership means taking the time to get to
know your staff on a personal level, understanding their
strengths and weaknesses, and empowering them to reach
their full potential. It also means being open to feedback
and actively seeking out ways to improve the work
environment and patient experience.
Why Compassionate Leadership Matters in Dental
Practice Management?
In the dental industry, there is often a focus on technical
skills and efficiency. While these are undoubtedly
important, they are not the only factors that contribute to a
successful practice. Patients are more likely to return to a
dental office where they feel cared for and valued. Staff
members who feel appreciated and supported are more
likely to be engaged and productive.
20| March 2023|www.insightscare.com
24. Compassionate leadership can also help to mitigate some of
the stresses and challenges that come with working in the
dental industry. Dental professionals are often faced with
high-stress situations, such as difficult procedures and
challenging patient interactions. By providing a supportive
and compassionate work environment, dental practice
managers can help their staff to feel more resilient and
better equipped to handle these situations.
Tips for Leading with Compassion in Dental Practice
Management
Ÿ Build Strong Relationships with Your Staff
Take the time to get to know your staff on a personal level.
This can involve regular check-ins, team-building activities,
and creating opportunities for open communication. When
your staff feels comfortable coming to you with questions
or concerns, you'll be better equipped to address issues
before they become bigger problems.
Ÿ Foster a Positive Work Environment
A positive work environment is critical to staff morale and
patient satisfaction. Some ways to create a positive work
environment include offering employee recognition
programs, creating opportunities for professional
development, and promoting work-life balance.
Ÿ Encourage Open Communication
Encouraging open communication is essential to
compassionate leadership. Dental practice managers should
create a culture of transparency where staff members feel
comfortable sharing feedback and ideas. Regular team
meetings, anonymous suggestion boxes, and one-on-one
check-ins can all be helpful tools for promoting open
communication.
Ÿ Empower Your Staff
Empowering your staff means giving them the tools and
resources they need to do their jobs effectively. This can
include providing ongoing training and professional
development opportunities, allowing staff members to take
ownership of their work, and providing resources to support
their mental and physical well-being.
Ÿ Lead by Example
As a dental practice manager, you set the tone for the rest of
the practice. Leading by example means modeling the
behavior you want to see in your staff, such as showing
compassion, empathy, and a commitment to patient care.
When your staff sees that you prioritize these values, they
are more likely to follow suit.
The Benefits of Compassionate Leadership in Dental
Practice Management
Effective dental practice management requires more than
just technical skills and efficiency. By leading with
compassion, dental practice managers can create a positive
work environment that fosters staff engagement and patient
satisfaction.
In addition to the benefits for staff and patients, there are
also benefits for the practice itself. A more engaged and
productive staff can lead to better patient outcomes and
increased profitability. Compassionate leadership can also
help to attract and retain top talent in the industry.
Finally, compassionate leadership can help to reduce stress
and burnout among dental professionals. By providing a
supportive work environment and promoting open
communication, dental practice managers can help their
staff to feel more resilient and better equipped to handle the
challenges of working in the dental industry.
Conclusion
In conclusion, effective dental practice management
requires more than just technical skills and efficiency.
Leading with compassion is essential to creating a positive
work environment that fosters staff engagement and patient
satisfaction. By building strong relationships with your
staff, fostering a positive work environment, encouraging
open communication, empowering your staff, and leading
by example, you can create a culture of compassion in your
dental practice.
Compassionate leadership can have significant benefits for
both staff and patients, including increased productivity,
better patient outcomes, and reduced stress and burnout
among dental professionals. By prioritizing compassionate
leadership, dental practice managers can create a practice
that not only provides high-quality dental care but also
values the well-being of its staff and patients.

30. The Latest
Trends in
n recent years, the field of dentistry has undergone
Imany changes due to advancements in technology,
changes in healthcare policy, and an increased focus on
patient-centered care. As a result, dental education has also
evolved to keep up with the latest trends and developments.
Emphasizing Professional Development Opportunities
One trend in dental education is the emphasis on
professional development opportunities for dental
professionals. These opportunities can take many forms,
including continuing education courses, conferences and
workshops.
Ÿ Continuing education courses are designed to help
dentists and other dental professionals stay up to date
with the latest research, techniques and technology in
the field. These courses may cover a wide range of
topics, such as dental implants, orthodontics and
endodontics, and can be completed online or in person.
Ÿ Conferences are another popular way for dental
professionals to stay current with the latest trends in
dentistry. These events bring together experts in the field
to share their knowledge and experiences, as well as to
network with other dental professionals. Conferences
may also offer hands-on workshops and demonstrations,
allowing attendees to learn new techniques and practice
their skills.
In addition to traditional continuing education courses and
conferences, many dental schools and professional
organizations are now offering online learning
opportunities. These courses allow dental professionals to
complete their training at their own pace and on their
schedule, making it easier to balance professional
development with other responsibilities.
Professional Development Opportunities

32. Increased Focus on Interprofessional Education
This approach involves collaboration between dental
professionals and other healthcare providers, such as
physicians, nurses and pharmacists, to improve patient
outcomes. Interprofessional education may be incorporated
into dental school curriculums, continuing education
courses and conferences.
Overall, the trend toward professional development
opportunities in dental education reflects the importance of
staying current with the latest trends and techniques in the
field. By continuing to learn and grow, dental professionals
can provide the best possible care to their patients and stay
competitive in an evolving healthcare landscape.
Use of Technology in Teaching and Learning
With the increasing availability and affordability of
technology, many dental schools and organizations are
incorporating digital tools into their curriculums, such as
virtual reality simulations, online learning platforms and
digital textbooks. These tools can make learning more
engaging and interactive, allowing students to better
understand and retain complex concepts.
Cultural Competency and Diversity
Dental professionals are increasingly recognizing the
importance of understanding and respecting the diverse
backgrounds and perspectives of their patients. As a result,
many dental schools and organizations are incorporating
training on cultural competency and diversity into their
curriculums and professional development opportunities.
Lifelong Earning
With the rapid pace of technological and scientific
advancements in the field, dental professionals must
commit to ongoing learning and professional development
throughout their careers. By staying up-to-date with the
latest trends and techniques in dentistry, dental
professionals can continue to provide high-quality care to
their patients and contribute to the growth and advancement
of the field.
Furthermore, dental education has also shifted towards a
more patient-centered approach. Dental professionals are
recognizing that the patient's needs and preferences should
be at the center of their care. Therefore, dental schools and
organizations are incorporating patient-centered care into
their curriculums and professional development
opportunities.
Patient-centered care involves understanding the patient's
unique circumstances, preferences and values, and tailoring
their treatment plan accordingly. This approach not only
improves patient outcomes but also enhances patient
satisfaction and trust in dental professionals.
In addition to patient-centered care, there is also an
increased focus on preventive care in dental education.
Dental professionals are recognizing that preventing oral
diseases is just as important as treating them. Therefore,
dental schools and organizations are incorporating
preventive care into their curriculums and professional
development opportunities. This involves educating patients
on good oral hygiene practices, such as brushing and
flossing and encouraging regular dental check-ups to detect
and treat any problems early on.
Finally, dental education is also focusing on addressing the
oral health disparities that exist in many communities.
Dental professionals are recognizing that not all patients
have equal access to dental care and that oral health is
closely linked to overall health and well-being. Therefore,
dental schools and organizations are incorporating training
on health equity and social determinants of health into their
curriculums and professional development opportunities.
In conclusion, the latest trends in dental education are
focused on providing the best possible care to patients
through ongoing professional development, patient-
centered care, preventive care and addressing health
disparities. Dental professionals must stay up to date with
the latest research, techniques and technology in the field,
while also incorporating patient needs and preferences into
their care. Furthermore, they must educate patients on good
oral hygiene practices, promote preventive care and address
oral health disparities to improve overall patient outcomes.
By embracing these trends, dental professionals can
contribute to the growth and advancement of the field, and
ultimately improve the oral health and well-being of their
communities.

AStephen E. Thorne IV learned the ropes of
running a dental practice at an early age. After
working in his father's practice for a few years, he realized
the need for a different approach that focused on providing
business support to dentists. This led him to launch Pacific
Dental Services (PDS), which has since grown to become a
model for dental support organizations across the country.
In an interview with Insights Care, Stephen talks more
about his journey to supporting dentists and dental practices
with PDS becoming one of the country's leading dental
support organizations with nearly 1,000 supported practices
across the nation today.
Following are the excerpts from the interview:
Briefly tell us about yourself and shed some light on
your journey towards forming the company. What led
you to venture into dentistry?
I come from a family of dentists. My grandfather graduated
from Harvard Dental School in 1939, my father and
brothers also became dentists. I, however, decided to go the
business route. After graduating from University of
California, Los Angeles in 1989 with a degree in business
economics, I found myself in a tough job market and started
working part time at my father's dental practice in
Victorville, California. My father asked me to install a
computer system into his practice, then asked me to fully
computerize his practice.
Shortly thereafter, I joined my father's practice full time,
learning the ins-and-outs of dental practice administration
and helping to grow the business. I received my master's in
health administration from Chapman University in 1994
and that same year I decided to set out on my own, with a
new idea and a vision to create the greatest dental company
in America. I launched my first dental practice management
contract in Costa Mesa, California, and today, Pacific
Dental Services is one of the country's leading dental
support organizations with nearly 1,000 supported practices
across the nation.
What tools and tactics do you think are most effective in
supporting dental treatment? What sets you apart from
others who are in the profession?
Pacific Dental Services has demonstrated its commitment to
competitive growth and clinical excellence by investing
significantly in the tools and resources available to our
teams of clinicians. PDS-supported dental practices use
advanced, proven technologies to provide modern dentistry
services that are at the forefront of both oral health and
whole-body health care. These clinical treatment tools
