Truman defends the use of the atomic bomb by saying that it would be either us coming

up with the atomic bomb or Germany coming up with it. One of the things Truman leaves

out about the nuclear strike on Hiroshima is the fact that this will not only kill soldiers

but it will also kill innocent townspeople. Truman emphasizes the cooperation between

the U.S. and Britain to develop he nuclear weapons, to share the blame in creating this

destructive bomb. In my opinion, Truman’s statement that this atomic power could

influence world peace makes me think he’s going to be a bully with it to make sure there

is peace.

Truman defends the use of the atomic bomb saying, “while at that time Britain was

exposed to constant air attack and was still threatened with the possibility of invasion.”

He also talks about how if we did not come up with the atomic bomb, Germany would

have and they would have used it. Also, coming up with the atomic bomb gave people

jobs; he says, “Employment during peak construction numbered 125,000 and over 65,000

individuals are even now engaged in operating the plants.”

Truman leaves out the details about the how many innocent people were killed by the

nuclear strike on Hiroshima. Also, he talks about how this had to be kept secret, but that

makes a person wonder how much he is still keeping a secret. Truman emphasizes the

team work of the U.S. and Britain to develop nuclear weapons, because he does not want

to be completely responsible for how big an affect they had on Japan.

Truman’s statement that he would consider how atomic power could influence world

peace makes me think he will act like a bully. It seems like since the U.S. has this atomic
bomb, he will not let other countries forget it, and will use it to help get his way. For

example, saying, “Nah you can’t touch me, because I have the better weapon, so you

better listen.”

Truman defends the use of the atomic bomb by saying; Britain was in danger of being

invaded, so we had to help them by creating the atomic bomb. One of the things Truman

leaves out about the nuclear strike on Hiroshima is the fact that this will not only kill

soldiers but it will also kill innocent townspeople. Truman emphasizes the cooperation

between the U.S. and Britain to develop he nuclear weapons, so the U.S. does not have to

take complete responsibility. In my opinion, Truman’s statement that this atomic power

could influence world peace, paints this picture of Truman using it to bully other

countries around with it.
