How Do Customers Address these
Challenges without Citrix?
SOLUTION COMPROMISES WITHOUT
Do nothing
different
Installations and updates take months to implement and
may require "touching" every desktop and device within
the organization
Limit access Restricting or prohibiting access to ensure security may
result in authorized users being denied admission to
corporate resources
Multiple
methods
Establish and maintain different access methods or
program interfaces for different locations/situations
Take risks Inability to comply with regulations may result in
government fines or penalties, and possible loss of
business/customers

Hinweis der Redaktion

  1. Product Overview (Prospects & Customers) The intended audience for this presentation are Citrix sales prospects and existing customers. [This presentation should be modified/tailored for each customer presentation based on the customer profile.]
  2. [Review presentation goals for appropriateness with each customer.]
  3. <number>
  4. [Presenters should add key Executive-level IT objectives for a specific customer if they help you tell the value story behind the product.]
  5. <number> Key Points: All of these top IT initiatives have a single component in common – access. Plan and address access, and you simplify the solutions to each one of these challenges.
  6. Some common business challenges reported by Citrix customers Simplify deployment of new applications, updates and patch deployment — regardless of the diversity of the access devices, software languages, computing architectures, and networks that are involved. An intuitive user experience that looks and feels as interactive and rich as a full-featured desktop with the option of a fully mobile environment. Provide authorized access to appropriate users – employees, customers, and partners – while verifying the ongoing security of the environment. Reducing total cost of ownership
  7. Our research tells us that IT Managers face challenges with Application Deployment. Rapid Application Deployment Challenges: Can take weeks or even months to deploy new applications Deploying applications to users located across the organization in remote offices or when traveling Complexity of having to individually “touch” each desktop or laptop, either physically by sending a technician or electronically with a software distribution tool Requirement to make traditional or legacy applications more accessible over the Web Discussion Points with Customer: “Do any of you face similar challenges…?” “How do challenges like these impact your business?”
  8. Another Challenge is providing a consistent user access experience … Users are on the move within an office building or campus Other times user need to access corporate information from devices not managed/controlled/(virus scanned) by IT, such as home computers or hotel business centers. Some times they take a laptop with them, sometimes the use a different device at their destination Challenges: Providing the same familiar user interface/experience Making best use of servers in datacenter Dealing with network connectivity issues (low bandwidth, lost of wireless signal) Connecting users to the corporate resources that are available and will provide the best performance at the time of the access need. This can change based on planned or unplanned outages. A need to provide business continuity. Want to avoid creating different user connection scenarios for each application or situation. Discussion Points with Customer: “Do any of you face similar challenges…?” “How do challenges like these impact your business?”
  9. A challenge is meeting Regulatory Compliance … … increasing regulations from many sources … becoming compliant within a limited budget … reducing risks from non-compliance, avoiding government fines or penalties, and possible loss of business/customers. Challenges: Becoming compliant within fixed/hard deadlines Ever increasing number of regulations … more every day Verify the ongoing security of environment … through reporting, logging … Discussion Points with Customer: “Do any of you face similar challenges…?” “How do challenges like these impact your business?”
  10. In general, all IT departments are looking to reduce costs, extend the life of their investments, and overall – do more with less. Many organizations, especially larger ones, have IT and Server consolidation initiatives in place or planned. How can they quickly and easily consolidate their applications and systems and still provide easy access with consistent (or even improved) application performance to end-users who may use a wide variety of access scenarios and devices. IT staff need to improve their own productivity and do more with less
  11. <number> Customers have choices and can try to meet these challenges other solutions, but these often result in less desirable results. Do nothing … use other complex technologies that require high investment in time and resources Limit Access … potentially cutting off user from the information that they need Multiple Methods … creating additional complexity for users Take Risks … with meeting regulations and maintaining security
  12. <number> Citrix Presentation Server is the easiest ways to deploy line of business applications from a central location and provide access to them from anywhere on any device.
  13. For client/server and desktop based applications, the optimal delivery method is generally virtualization. Instead of deploying, managing, updating and securing a vast array of heterogeneous client software on each individual user’s access device, a single instance of the application is installed on a “presentation server” that is deployed in the datacenter. This server “virtualizes” application delivery by passing only screen pixels, keystrokes and mouse movements over the wire instead of actual data. This process is transparent to end users who have the same experience as if they were using each application locally, while IT administrators have a far more cost-effective, easy-to-manage and secure method for providing access to these centralized applications. Citrix Presentation Server is certified to run on Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003, Windows Server™ 2003 x64 Edition, and Windows® 2000 Server, and supports virtually any custom or commercially packaged Windows or Web application. Citrix Presentation Server also virtualizes UNIX and Java™ applications so users no longer need multiple desktops or software emulation packages. Citrix Presentation Server for UNIX supports Sun Microsystems’ Solaris™ 8, 9, & 10, Hewlett-Packard’s HP-UX® 11 & 11i, and IBM’s AIX® 5.1, 5.2 & 5.3. Citrix Presentation Server provides an exceptional foundation to build highly scalable, flexible, secure, manageable access solutions that reduce computing costs and increase the utility of any information system.
  14. <number> Presentation Server provides identity-driven access tailored to any user environment by sense-and-respond technology, improving productivity while ensuring a highly secure access environment. It automatically analyzes the access scenario and then delivers the appropriate level of access without compromising security. Depending on who and where users are and what device and network they’re using, they may be granted different levels of access. Citrix Presentation Server provides features such as: universal application publishing device peripheral access (drives, ports, printers) local/remote transparency (content redirection) zone preference and failover access polices multi-factor authentication (smart cards, tokens) secure role-based access (Web interface)
  15. <number> Secure access is best achieved with a multidimensional approach. The first dimension is centralizing application infrastructure, placing access control completely in the hands of the IT staff. Second, policy-based controls allow IT organizations to easily restrict who gets access to what information and when. Third, the infrastructure should only transmit “information pictures” over the network rather than sending real corporate data over potentially non-secure connections. And fourth, these transmissions should be scrambled and encoded, allowing secure use of the public Internet for connectivity. Finally, the front door of any application should be guarded through effective and efficient management of the authentication process. Citrix Presentation Server provides features such as: device peripheral access (drives, ports, printers) SSL/TLS encryption delegated administration zero footprint client (java) multi-factor authentication (smart cards, tokens) regulatory compliance (508, CC, FIPS140, HIPAA) industry certifications (Windows, RSA)
  16. <number> Presentation Server increases the cost-effectiveness of IT and the productivity of employees by ensuring continuous, reliable access regardless of business or technical disruptions; corporate growth; technology evolutions; organizational change and strategic business initiatives such as application centralization, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and branch office expansion; partner commerce; and, especially, business continuity. Citrix Presentation Server provides features such as: zone preference and failover session reliability portal integration (WebSphere, SAP) Web server independence server platform and operating system independence (Windows, UNIX, x64) database independence (IBM, MS, Oracle) directory services integration (Microsoft and Novell) advanced printer driver management enterprise farm scalability (1000-servers) load balancing datastore and farm fault tolerance Installation Manager on-demand licensing multi-language localization SDK and API integration and expandability
  17. <number> Presentation Server provides access continuity across devices, locations and networks, increasing user productivity and enhancing the quality of work. Users log in only once to access all their applications. From there, the device and network independence of Citrix access infrastructure means seamless transitions across access scenarios, ensuring a consistent user experience as you change devices by automatically reformatting for new form factors. It also means persistent access as users move between wired and wireless networks, even across wireless dead zones. Citrix Presentation Server provides features such as: universal application publishing device peripheral access (drives, ports, printers) local/remote transparency (content redirection) managed (published) browser with acceleration proxy and firewall traversal image, Flash and multimedia acceleration workspace control session reliability dynamic session reconfiguration device independence and protocol independence (ICA and RDP) client platform and operating system independence browser independence universal print driver
  18. <number> Presentation Server simplifies the deployment, monitoring, measurement and management of IT services by giving IT administrators the power to understand who is using what, how often and to what extent. They can observe, monitor, measure, audit, report and archive all the dimensions of information flow throughout the computing environment. This enables informed decisions regarding application consolidation and retirement, capacity planning, service level agreements and departmental charge-back. Ultimately, this capability enables IT administrators to deliver IT services on a utility model. Citrix Presentation Server provides features such as: delegated administration reporting and logging monitoring and alerting Network Manager (integration with third-party SNMP management consoles, such as Tivoli NetView, HP OpenView, CA Unicenter) unified management console on-demand licensing built-in diagnostics integration with MOM/WMI
  19. <number> Let’s look at some of the high level features and benefits … Most important is rapid application deployment …
  20. <number> Citrix Presentation Server is “always available” or “always on” through several features on the server side that make sure users can access applications and information. Also, provides a “consistent user experience” by running applications on the server and only sending out screens, mouse clicks and keystrokes over the network to virtually any device … desktop, laptop, PDA … wired or wireless … local, remote or mobile.
  21. <number> Citrix Presentation Server helps meet regulatory compliance. Meet global, industry-specific or broad multi-industry regulations – such as Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404, HIPAA, Basel II, or the European Union Data Protection Directive – ensuring security of corporate data And provides authorized access to appropriate users – employees, customers, and partners – while verifying the ongoing security of its environment
  22. <number> Citrix Presentation Server provides increased system performance with technology to increase the number of users per server and increase compatibly for applications running in a multi-user environment. This helps with server consolidation and positions the organization for growth – without having to purchase more servers. The tools provided with Citrix Presentation Server will help you in observing, monitoring, measuring, auditing, and reporting to provide visibility and accountability.
  23. <number>
  24. Sales Track The Citrix Presentation Server enables the CIO’s vision of a corporate computing utility. To accomplish this, key applications must first be centralized to the data center. Distributed applications are costly to manage and support, difficult to secure, and their accessibility is limited. [Space bar] Centralizing applications and hosting them in the data center makes then easy to manage and support, secures them in a controlled environment (the data center), and enables rapid scalability and delivery to any user anywhere. [Space bar] Technical Track Also note the following: Do not talk about ICA on this slide… this is noted on the next slide. Poorly designed HTML web applications require installation of client side components and hence have client-side requirements. Also, they require high bandwidth and typically do not consider security risk. Accessing critical business applications from the data center ensures that information remains on the corporate network, controlled by IT. It is not left on the users device. While the centralized architecture is dependent on network access, there are some key things to point out. First, the applications that benefit the most from centralization are CRM and ERP apps… business critical applications. These require network access in order to access data. The customer loses nothing by centralizing these applications. Furthermore, web applications require internet connectivity. Once again, the customer loses nothing and gains manageability, standardization, optimization, security, and increased performance.
  25. Sales Track Now, applications are able to be “published” as utility style services. Essentially, we tell the system where the application is located, how the application will look, and what server resources we will allocate to users accessing the application… Now, these packaged applications are ready to be delivered along-side other information and application resources. Technical Track Also note the following: new features of Presentation Server such as application isolation, CPU and memory management can control drive, printer, clip board, com, and audio mapping. can control color depth and resolution can configure the name of the package/published application Published applications standardize application access. Shared network folders and direct access web applications are delivered natively as appropriate.
  26. Sales Track Instead of deploying, managing, updating and securing a vast array of heterogeneous client software on each individual user’s access device, a single instance of the application is installed on a “presentation server” that is deployed in the datacenter. When applications are centralized to the data center, they stay there. They run on servers housed in the data center. When users wish to access them they request a connection and begin what’s called a “session”. Communication over the network consists of screen updates sent to the user. [Space bar] Users experience the application as if it were running on their local desktop. When users interact with the application their mouse-clicks and key strokes are sent over the internet and back to the server. [Space bar] In this case, no information is sent over the network… and all communications are encrypted. Furthermore, regardless of what platform the application was written for, it can now be accessed from any device over any connection… MS, Linux, Unix, Mac, Laptop, Desktop, PDA, Tablet… or connection… DSL, LAN, WAN, and even dial-up. Technical Track Also note the following: Note that data is not downloaded to the client device regardless of what platform the application was written for, it can now be accessed from any device over any connection… MS, Linux, Unix, Mac, Laptop, Desktop, PDA, Tablet… or connection… DSL, LAN, WAN, and even dial-up. Client hotfixes, service pack levels, etc. are no longer an issue. Application delivery and access is standardized enabling customers to leverage the technology they want and need for the client device, rather than the choice being driven by what the application supports.

  30. [There are 200+ customer case studies posted at http://www.citrix.com/casestudies, which can be searched for additional information relevant to a specific implementation. Presenters should select additional customer case studies relevant to the audience.] Challenge: T-Mobile has 2,000 customer-service operators in four contact centers spread across the UK. In order to effectively provide a high level of customer service to network subscribers, these operators need efficient access to T-Mobile’s key billing application, Excalibur. T-Mobile operators had accessed the previous billing system over a client/server network, which required application software on thousands of PCs across the UK. T-Mobile wanted a way to provide customer-service operator teams with access to the Excalibur application without the need for on-site IT support at each contact centre. At the same time, T-Mobile was working to de-centralize its engineering department, which involved moving field workers from headquarters to locations throughout the country. However, the applications used by field engineers to carry out maintenance on network base stations were not designed for use in remote locations. Engineers in the field were forced to record information on paper, and to later transfer the information into computers when they returned to their offices. T-Mobile needed a method to deliver these applications to its engineers regardless of location, to enable them to work more efficiently. Key Benefits: Initial cost savings of £12 million in IT hardware and support costs Wireless access to applications for engineers in the field Enhanced customer service for a competitive edge “In its first year, the Citrix solution saved us at least £12 million in IT infrastructure costs. But that’s a small fraction of the overall savings and business benefits.”Peter Scott, Customer Service Director, T-Mobile

  32. Previously sold and licensed as three separate products … … now share common unified licensing. Only one concurrent user connection licenses is consumed, no matter how many servers/product are used. No longer a “double-tax” for using Windows and UNIX.
  33. MAIN MESSAGE TO AUDIENCE: YOU ASKED FOR IT, YOU GOT IT! RUN MORE USERS ON EVERY SERVER! Save money, run more efficiently, consolidate servers. This is a huge value add over TS alone. MAKE MY APPS WORK! Run apps that you could never run before on Citrix Presentation Server period (apps that didn’t run on TS, or needed an IP address per user, etc.! Also run apps together on the same server that you could never do before! Hence more applications to move onto the Citrix Presentation Server platform to save TCO, security, control, etc., and the latter frees constraints in deciding which applications to install in different server silos, and also helps with multiple versions of the same application when smoothly upgrading users (e.g. from Office 97 to Office 2003). Additionally, with Presentation Server x64, now 64-bit applications can be deployed – delivering higher performance. PRINT FASTER! PRINT BETTER! PRINT NEXT TO YOU! Whole new printing engine from the ground up! Print up to 50% faster, print using less bandwidth and memory, print using advanced printer functionality like multiple trays, stapling, etc., and print to the nearest printer when you’re SmoothRoaming! GREATER FLEXIBILITY UNIX uses same Enterprise Edition licenses and Windows. End to the “double-tax”. Users that connect to a Window server and UNIX server consume only one concurrent user license. Conferencing Manager is now a feature of Presentation Server. Since it runs an a publish application, users consume only a license to connect to Presentation Server.
  34. <number> Smart Card Roaming Enables users to use their smart cards to log on and off automatically through Program Neighborhood Agent. This is very useful in an environment where employees use computers as terminals that are scattered across a facility. To log on automatically and retrieve applications, an employee inserts a smart card into a terminal. To log off automatically, the employee simply removes the card. By gaining greater flexibility when a user logs on and logs off, the smooth roaming feature is enhanced when used in conjunction with workspace control. Better Printing Performance A new generation of Citrix universal printer driver improves printing performance and enhances access to more printer properties, such as additional paper trays and finishing options, like stapling and sorting, for better productivity. Better Printing Control The management policy system of Citrix Presentation Server has been enhanced to handle network printers, which enables administrators to create customized printing workspaces based on any policy criteria, allowing for such functionality as automatic printing to the closest physical printer when roaming from device to device, all without the use of complex logon scripting USB Synchronization for PDA Devices(Enterprise and Advanced Editions only) Allows the synchronization of a client-connected USB PDA device using application software running on Citrix Presentation Server rather than on the client device. This feature supports USB-tethered and Microsoft Windows powered PDAs that use ActiveSync as a synchronization agent. Support for Image Scanning Peripherals(Enterprise and Advanced Editions only) Citrix Presentation Server can now redirect client-connected TWAIN imaging devices, notably document scanners, from the client to the server, regardless of connection type. This allows users to control client-attached imaging devices from applications that run on the server; the redirection is transparent. Faster Performance Processing performance has increased in two highly visible areas thereby reducing user wait times. Logon Performance Improvements – User logon time over a WAN is improved. Improved Remote File Access and Directory Browsing – Drive optimization policies can improve common client drive access operations over a WAN for remote sessions where latency is significant; the greater the latency, the more noticeable the improvement.
  35. <number> Multilingual User Interface Support for Web Interface A single version of the Web Interface is now distributed for all languages. This version can dynamically change its localization depending on the user’s or administrator’s preferences. Simplified Customization of the Web Interface If you want the Web Interface to have a more specific look and feel, you can now better customize the appearance through simplified customization through the management console, no longer via scripting, or custom coding. The following are some of the options that may be easily customized: Overall Layout – Customize the user’s overall screen layout or allow users to customize the layout. Branding – Format the user’s screen with a customized “look and feel” using branding colors, logo images, and header images. Applications Window – Specify the window title bar color or image, title bar text color, number of application icon columns that are displayed, and allow users to customize these settings. Welcome Area – Specify the title bar background color, title bar text color, welcome message text language, welcome message text, and any additional languages. Support for Operating System File Locking Rules Client drive mapping for Citrix Presentation Server now supports and conforms to operating system file locking rules. When a file is opened, the remote file system driver locks it on both the server and client side, thereby preventing possible versioning conflicts brought about by simultaneous use by multiple users. Application Isolation Environments (Enterprise Edition only) Application isolation environments are a technology solution to issues arising from application compatibility and interoperability in the server environment, such as Registry conflicts, DLL versioning, incompatibility with Terminal Services, and post-installation configuration requirements. Problems associated with such incompatibilities not only increase total cost of ownership, but can potentially hamper the standardization of Citrix Presentation Server on an enterprise-wide level. Application isolation environments provide the following key benefits: Safely install and reliably run multiple applications that require different versions of the same shared component Safely execute incompatible applications on the same server at the same time Update applications independently of each other, without fear of impacting existing applications Install and publish applications that are not designed to run in a multi-user environment using Citrix Presentation Server Safely install incompatible applications on a single server, preventing build up of application-specific server silos Virtual IP Address Support (Enterprise and Advanced Editions only) Using virtual IP addresses, an administrator can publish applications that require separate IP addresses per session whether for technical or licensing reasons. This for example is important to Computer Telephony Integration (CTI) applications that are widely used in call centers. With virtual IP addresses, you can set aside a block of IP addresses for use by sessions that require them. CPU Utilization Management (Enterprise Edition only) Designed to increase single-server scalability, or in other terms support more simultaneous users on a single server while maintaining acceptable performance. It does so by normalizing the usage of each user by smoothing out the normal CPU peaks that most applications have. In a typical deployment running Citrix Presentation Server, a certain amount of CPU utilization is reserved on each server in order to handle these CPU spikes, so by flattening these out, less reserve headroom is required and hence capacity utilization may be increased. CPU utilization management also limits very CPU-intensive applications to a limited share of the CPU, so that one user does not inadvertently have an inappropriate adverse affect on other users. All of this means more users per server and hence less servers or more room for growth. Virtual Memory Optimization (Enterprise Edition only) Improves application performance and virtual memory usage through server memory (DLL) optimization, resulting in a reduction in overall memory requirements for some applications. This in turn provides more room for additional users and applications on a single server. Licensing The licensing technology introduced with Citrix Presentation Server 3.0 is enhanced in the following ways: The License Management Console can now be run with either Apache HTTP Server or Internet Information Services (IIS) as its Web server. Microsoft clustering is now supported as a high availability solution for the license server.
  36. <number> Easier Smart Card Support This feature improves application support of smart cards by eliminating the need for specific application configuration. Administrators no longer need to use a separate Citrix utility (SCConfig) to configure smart card applications Improved Smart Card PIN Handling Improved PIN handling enables users to pass their credentials correctly through to new sessions on multiple servers, helping to eliminate failed logon attempts after successfully authenticating with an initial server. This provides an easy solution for administrators who allow users with smart cards to access servers that are not smart card enabled. Support for HP Protect Tools (formerly known as HP Windows Secure Edition (SE)) This version of Citrix Presentation Server offers full support for farms running on Windows domains using HP Protect Tools. User logons and application launches using Win32 Clients or the Web Interface now fully operate with HP Protect Tools, greatly enhancing joint solutions with HP. RSA SecurID and SafeWord on UNIX RSA SecurID and SafeWord authentication to the Web Interface is now available on UNIX platforms.
