2. •Suntrolley can be easily moved , or fixed in one
location permanently.
•It can be tracked in two axis manually.
• Modular design. Add more units for more HP.
• Our 1 and 2 HP pumps are installed at ICIMOD.
3. Solar panels, submersible/surface
pumps & controllers
• Atom Solar has special solar panels resulting in better
performance of our pumps.
• We have a wide range of submersible and surface
pumps from 0.5hp onwards .
• Our controllers are fine tuned to operate during cloudy
days.
• Our 1 hp pump specially designed for Terai, recently
completed a tough test at MNRE Lab and gave an
average output of over 80,000 lpd at 5 m head.
4. Solar Pump Controller:
• Auto start/restart when enough sunlight is available.
• Flow automatically adjusts with intensity of sunlight for
optimized performance. MPPT.
• Dry run protection.
• Output 3 phase AC.
• Soft start and stop for prolonged motor life.
• Earth / Lightning protection.
• Controller is enclosed in weather proof box, suitable for
external use.
5. Motor and Pump:
• Motor: 3 phase AC
• Submersible and Surface type available.
• Heavy duty , off the shelf models.
• Rewindable, repairable in local workshops
Cables and Connectors:
• DC wiring: All Solar Panels have MC4 connectors for easy and safe
wiring. All cables are double sheath insulated, single core, multi strand
copper. Weather proof and Suitable for external use.
• AC wiring: Motor comes along with submersible, 4 core, double sheath
flat cable, 10m long.
• Extra cable length: This can be supplied on request for connection
between controller and motor.
• Rubber insulation tape: Is supplied for making water proof connections
to submersible motor cable.

7. State Govt introduces solar water
pumps to farmers
• Maharashtra Government has introduced MASSIVE plans to
provide solar water pumps to farmers. They aim to REPLACE ALL
IRRIGATION PUMPS in the State, starting with the draught prone
“suicide belt” of Eastern Maharashtra where 7500 pumps are to be
installed. We already have three pumps there.
• Eventually solar pump arrays will be grid connected so that farmers
can sell the electricity to the State. This way they will earn even
when pumps are not working.
• The electricity can be diverted to industries who will pay for it.
• Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka and many more states in India
are giving top priority to solar pump sets for agriculture and are
offering as much as 90 per cent subsidy to farmers.
8. Challenges and experiences
• The Suntrolley won the Greenpeace Open Innovation Challenge award from
amongst entries from all over the world, in Dec 2013. It was meant to find a
replacement for millions of small diesel pumps in Bihar and elsewhere.
• The Suntrolley fulfilled all the parameters set out in the Innovation Challenge
and was the only working prototype. It was a bit surprising that there were
only 250 designs posted . There should have been thousands from engineers,
scientists and solar companies in this well publicized Challenge .
• As a follow up, let us have a solar pump festival here in Nepal where everyone
can showcase their pumps. The prices and performance of the pumps will be
there for all to see and be judged fairly , in an open contest.
• It is very difficult for start ups like us to get MNRE Certification and enter
subsidy programmes It has taken me 18 months to get our pump tested.
• Government subsidies have been instrumental in keeping prices of solar
pumps high and have discouraged innovations. Let us have a level playing field
9. •We are trying to create awareness of solar water pumping
systems with the help of ICIMOD by conducting demonstrations
in Nepal.
•We have been able to learn from the input of farmers and apply
this valuable information to improve our solar water pumping
system.
10. Our Mission
• Our mission is to make user friendly, low cost solar pumps to save small farmers,
especially women , the drudgery of irrigating their farms.
• Our vision is to make solar pumps easily available in the open market . We just
have to scale up what we are doing, keeping the price attractive enough for direct
sales with no burden on government . Stop all subsidies is my request.
