INTRAPERSONAL INTELLIGENCE

It is the process of going inward to create
meaning for ourselves.
•People with intrapersonal intelligence are adept
at looking inward and figuring out their own
feelings, motivations and goals. They are
introspective and seek understanding. They are
intuitive and typically introverted. They learn
best independently.
Common Characteristics
•Introverted
•Prefers working alone
•Philosophical
•Self-aware
•Perfectionist
•Often thinks of self-employment
•Enjoys journaling
•Intuitive
•Independent
•Spends time thinking and reflecting
•Likes learning about self
Ways to Develop Your Intrapersonal Intelligence
 Do individual counseling or psychotherapy work as a client.
Study “maps of self” in Western psychology and/or Eastern
philosophies.
Learn to meditate.
Listen to motivational audio- and videos.
Write your autobiography.
Create your own person ritual or rite of passage.
Record and work with your dreams on a regular basis
Read self-help books.
Establish a quiet place in your home for introspection.
Teach yourself something new such a skill, a language, or a body of
knowledge in an area of interest to you.
 Start your own business
Develop an interest or hobby that sets you apart from the crowd
Enroll in a class on assertiveness training or developing self-confidence
Take a battery of tests designed to assess your special strengths and
weaknesses in a broad range of areas
Set short- and long-term goals for yourself and then follow through on
them
Attend a seminar designed to teach you about yourself on your “selves”
(e.g. psycho synthesis, transitional analysis, psychodrama, gestalt work,
etc)
Keep a daily journal or diary for recording your thoughts, feeling, goals,
and memories.
Study the biographies and autobiographies of great individuals with
powerful personalities
Engage in daily self-esteem enhancing behaviors (ege using
positive self-talk, affirming your successes)
Attend the house of worship of your choice regularly
Dome something pleasurable for yourself at least once a day
Find out what your personal “myth” is and live it in the world
Keep a mirror handy to look into when you are in different
moods or states of mind
Take ten minutes every evening to mentally review the
various thoughts and feelings you had during the day
Spend time with people who have a strong and healthy sense
of self

INTERPERSONAL INTELLIGENCE INTERPERSONAL INTELLIGENCE BUILDS ON A CORE CAPACITY TO NOTICE DISTINCTIONS AMONG OTHERS ; IN PARTICULAR ; CONTRASTS IN THEIR MOODS , TEMPERAMENTS , MOTIVATION AND INTENTIONS. IN MORE ADVANCED FORMS , THIS INTELLIGENCE PERMITS A SKILLED ADULT TO READ THE INTENTIONS AND DESIRES OF OTHERS , EVEN WHEN THESE HAVE BEEN HIDDEN.

  • 17. WAYS TO DEVELOP INTERPERSONAL INTELLIGENCE STAY IN TOUCH WITH YOUR FRIENDS, RELATIVES, COLLEGES, ACQUAINTANCES & OTHERS.  DECIDE TO MEET A ONE NEW PERSON EACH DAY OR WEEK.  JOIN A VOLUNTEER OR SERVICE ORIENTED GROUP.
  • 18. SPEND FIFTEEN MINUTES EACH DAY PRACTICING ACTIVE LISTENING WITH YOUR CLOSE FRIEND.  ORGANISE A PARTY AND INVITE AT LEAST THREE PEOPLE THAT YOU DON’T KNOW VERY WELL.  TAKE A LEADERSHIP ROLE IN A GROUP YOU ARE CURRENTLY INVOLVED WITH AT WORK OR IN YOUR COMMUNITY. COLLABORATE WITH ONE OR MORE PERSONS ON PROJECT OF MUTUAL INTEREST.  HAVE A REGULAR FAMILY MEETINGS IN YOUR HOME.
  • 19.  COMMUNICATE WITH OTHER PEOPLE ON A COMPUTER VIA AN ELECTRONIC BULLETIN BOARD.  ORGANISE A GROUP BRAINSTORMING SESSION AT YOUR WORKPLACE.  STRIKE UP CONVERSATIONS WITH PEOPLE IN PUBLIC PLACES(BOOKSTORES,SUPERMARKETS,RAILWAY STATION, AIRLINE TERMINAL ETC.)  ATTEND FAMILY ,SCHOOL, OR WORK RELATED REUNIONS.  PLAY NON COMPETITIVE/ COOPERATIVE GAMES WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.  GET TO KNOW MEMBERS OF “WE” CULTURE (NATIVE AMERICAN,JAPANESE,HISPANIC ETC.) AND ADAPT THE BEST FEATURES OF THEIR INTERPERSONAL LIFE STYLE TO YOUR OWN LIFE.
  • 20.  OFFER TO TEACH , TUTOR OR COUNSEL OTHER PEOPLE THROUGH A VOLUNTEER ORGANISATION OR ON AN INFORMAL BASIS.  SPEND ATLEAST FIFTEEN MINUTES A DAY FOR A WEEK OR TWO OBSERVING HOW PEOPLE INTERACT IN A PUBLIC PLACE.  MEDIATATE ON YOUR CONNECTION TO THOSE ARROUND YOU , STARTING WITH YOUR IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND FRIENDS, EXTENDING THIS TO YOUR COMMUNITY.  STUDY THE LIVES OF WELL KNOWN SOCIALLY COMPETENT INDIVIDUALES (e.g. PHILANTHROPISTS, COUNSELORS, POLITICIANS, SOCIAL WORKERS) THROUGH BIOGRAPHIES, FILMS AND OTHER MEDIA , AND LEARN TO FOLLOW THEIR EXAMPLE.

INTRAPERSONAL INTELLIGENCE It is the process of going inward to create meaning for ourselves. •People with intrapersonal intelligence are adept at looking inward and figuring out their own feelings, motivations and goals. They are introspective and seek understanding. They are intuitive and typically introverted. They learn best independently.

Ways to Develop Your Intrapersonal Intelligence  Do individual counseling or psychotherapy work as a client. Study “maps of self” in Western psychology and/or Eastern philosophies. Learn to meditate. Listen to motivational audio- and videos. Write your autobiography. Create your own person ritual or rite of passage. Record and work with your dreams on a regular basis Read self-help books. Establish a quiet place in your home for introspection. Teach yourself something new such a skill, a language, or a body of knowledge in an area of interest to you.
  • 24.  Start your own business Develop an interest or hobby that sets you apart from the crowd Enroll in a class on assertiveness training or developing self-confidence Take a battery of tests designed to assess your special strengths and weaknesses in a broad range of areas Set short- and long-term goals for yourself and then follow through on them Attend a seminar designed to teach you about yourself on your “selves” (e.g. psycho synthesis, transitional analysis, psychodrama, gestalt work, etc) Keep a daily journal or diary for recording your thoughts, feeling, goals, and memories. Study the biographies and autobiographies of great individuals with powerful personalities
  • 25. Engage in daily self-esteem enhancing behaviors (ege using positive self-talk, affirming your successes) Attend the house of worship of your choice regularly Dome something pleasurable for yourself at least once a day Find out what your personal “myth” is and live it in the world Keep a mirror handy to look into when you are in different moods or states of mind Take ten minutes every evening to mentally review the various thoughts and feelings you had during the day Spend time with people who have a strong and healthy sense of self
