1. How does the Weeping Widow represent particular social groups Craig Lawson and Daniel Collin
2. Age Age has been represented through the main character Detective Laing. He is a seasoned detective that has been working the same case for a number of years, we can tell this because the killer has numerous victims. He wears smart clothing however they look baggy and worn suggesting that he takes his work very seriously and is working overtime in an attempt to solve the case, unlike a younger detective who is more likely to to be cocky and careless about his work. The killer is a women who goes under the name of the weeping widow, she is of old age and is a feared and experienced killer, although she does not feature as an actor in the film, we see her in a picture in the opening sequence. Her age is also shown through the number of murdered husbands, her husbands are often younger men ho are also photographed in the opening sequence who have been lured under their own insecurities into marrying the weeping widow before being murdered.
3. Gender Gender has been represented in the opening sequence through detective Laing’s body language shows he is serious and appears to be focused on finding the weeping widow, and although the case has not been solved it is the female killer that is in hiding from the public which is evidence through the newspaper article that is seen on he desk in he opening scene that states that the weeping widow has killed again. Gender has also been represented through the pictured victims in the opening scene as it is showing female dominance, as they have fallen foul of the weeping widow and been killed as a result. Even though the weeping widow is on the run from the Detective Laing and hiding from the public she shows that she is almost mocking Detective Laing through the text that she sent him asking him to go to the beach banks and sending her love at the end of the text message. This shows that despite not being the dominant character she does not want Detective Laing to feel in control and she wants to put pressure and stress onto his mind. I feel that overall this is a film dominated by the male gender as the majority of characters in this film are male.
4. Class Class has been represented in the opening sequence through Detective Laing. He appears to be of a middle class background which is evidenced through his career as a detective. His clothing despite being baggy and worn out also suggests that he is off a middle class background as it is smart clothing suitable for the work of a detective The weeping widow represents class through the clothing on her picture as she wears a coat that appears to look like something maybe even the queen would wear, the pose in the picture is snobbish suggesting that she believes herself to be above others in terms of importance The victims of the killer also appear to be of middle class like detective Laing, although we do not know of their job titles etc. their clothing provides a great hint of their class as their clothes aren’t scruffy however they are casual and suitable of the average middle class person. The lower class is represented through the truck as the film is set in the early morning when the detective Laing Is going to the beach banks
5. Target Audience The target audience for our film is going to be aimed at adult males as we believe that the film is rather stereotypical of what a male would want to view. We believe that adult males would be more likely to come to see our film as they are usually hooked on crime films and their intelligent plots than any other age group. The film rating is going to be a 12A as the film does have links to death however you do not actually view any violence. We also feel that this particular rating is more likely to draw in a larger audience than a more restrictive rating such as a 15 or an 18.
