Majeed* *(Department of Petroleum Engineering , Basra University, College of Engineering) ABSTRACT In this study, the monthly average daily pressure, mean daily vapour pressure, and hours of values of global solar radiation and relative bright sunshine data obtained from different parts of sunshine hours global solar radiation on a Egypt [3], while Sfetsos and Coonick (2000) used horizontal surface over a period of five years artificial intelligence techniques to forecast hourly (2004-2008) using multi-linear polynomial form global solar radiation[4]. Several investigations of the Angstrom-Prescott model have been (Akpabio et al., 2004, Falayi and Rabiu, 2005, Safari developed to estimate global solar radiation for and Gasore, 2009) have demonstrated the predictive Rutba (one of west Iraqi cities) which lies on ability of the Angstrom type model, correlating the latitude 30°03'N and longitude 40o28' E. It was global solar radiation to relative sunshine found that the five different mathematical duration in a simple linear regression form [5, 6, and correlations models ( first order, second order, 7]. Menges et al.(2006) reviewed and tested exponential, powered, and logarithmic ) utilizing available global solar radiation models to compute relative sunshine hours gave the best overall the monthly average daily global solar radiation on a estimate of the total solar radiation in Rutba. The horizontal surface using the data obtained from agreement between the measured values (that Konya, Turkey[8]. In this work we employ the obtained from the archives of Iraqi Angstrom type first order polynomial and fifth other meteorological office) and the computed values is equations to estimate the relation between clearness remarkable and the models are recommended for index and cloud index , and then we can estimate the use in Rutba. monthly average daily global solar radiation on horizontal surfaces at Rutba city. When office. The geographical location of the city is sunlight reaches the Earth, it is distributed unevenly presented in Table 1. The duration of record is from in different regions. Not surprisingly, the areas near 2004 to 2008. the equator receive more solar radiation than Table 1: Geographical location of the city anywhere else on earth. Solar radiation is the energy City Latitude Longitude that comes from the sun which generate huge Rutba 33o03' N 40o28' E amount of energy through the process of nuclear fusion. Knowledge of the solar radiation is essential The most convenient and widely used for many applications, including architectural design, solar energy systems, crop growth models correlation for predicting solar radiation was and other applications. The global solar radiation on developed by Angstrom and later modified by horizontal surface at the location of interest is the Prescott. The formula is[9]: 𝐻 𝑆 most critical input parameter employed in the design = 𝑎+ 𝑏 (1) 𝐻𝑜 𝑆𝑜 and prediction of the performance of solar energy Where H is the global solar radiation device [1].
