The document discusses ideas for three potential documentary topics: 1) differences between sixth form and college, focusing on support from teachers and social environments; 2) why cricket remains segregated at some school levels despite being mixed at professional levels, looking at history and specific players; 3) how gun and knife crime in London has changed over time, exploring how law enforcement tackles the problem. The target audiences, modes, conventions, purposes and potential distributions are outlined for each idea.
2. 6thform lifestyle
Q1. Should we go college or sixth form?
More support from teacher / Staying with your friends
A- Level Pressure
The same environment/ The same
people / teachers
The documentary will focus on the differences between sixth form and
college and they benefits between them, such as, sixth form is more familiar because you
know the teachers, and students so it's much easier to socially adapt to sixth form, whereas
colleges you get to make new friends and impress new teachers.
So the choice is up to you!
The reason this idea inspired me is because I want to find out about people future and what there career
aims are.
3. Target Audience
My primary target audiences for my documentary would be teenagers age 16-19
both Male and Female because Sixth from contains students from this age group
and has wide range of hobbies and interest for their future. This will appeal to
young people, because they are concern about their future and will make them
realize the benefit of college and sixth form and will help them in building up
their confidence.
My secondary audience for my documentary would be parents and career advisor
such as connection to advise them about their future. They always play a big key
role in the students life to show what is beneficial for their future and what is
not.
4. Mode (type of documentary)
The mode of my documentary will be Fly on the wall. The reason why I
chose this mode is because It will be a real life situations supposedly
made without affecting the behavior of the participants and to portray
the situation as if you are there.
Also for my documentary Fly on the wall will link to the observational
mode as I am going to present a greater sense of realism/truth without
intervention.
5. Conventions
The convention that I am going to use in my documentary will be voice over,
Past footage, Interview, technicality of realism, real footage, visual coding, sound
and reconstruction.
Voice over
The voiceover will encourage the audience to believe that they have some inside
knowledge about what is happening . In this case when we watched ‘Biggie and
Tupac’ documentary by Nick Broomfield he used lots of voice over from past
footages to make people to pay more attention.
Reconstructions
Re-creating scenes that I cannot film.
6. Past footage
Past footages will help aid my documentary by giving me support to add more information
that I cannot get. Also it is essential to convince the audience that the footages are real
and unchanged.
Interview with an expert
I will use interview in order to confirm the views expressed in my documentary. Sometimes
the audience might disagree with my documentary message but I will disprove them in
some way.
Technicality of realism
I will include natural sound , lighting and locations in my documentary like Nick
Broomfield’s used in Biggie and Tupac when they run out of sound.
7. Real footage
Adding real footage will make my documentary seem as real as possible, using as little non-
fiction work or footage as possible like Nick. Broomfield's which he did in his documentary
about Biggie and Tupac to make the audience think that you are there.
Visual coding
In my documentary I will be using things like mise en scene and props. For example a
person using doctors equipment such as wearing white coat and wearing a stethoscope will
make you question.
Sound
Listen out for the use of sound that cannot be heard by the film's characters, audience and
background. And make the audience think that why and what effects does it have? Is
sound used as a bridge between scenes and if so what meaning are made?
8. Purpose
The reason why I am making this documentary is to help
students by giving them advise to make the right choice for
their future and don’t feel under pressure.
Also the purpose of my documentary would be to be able to

impression in order to catch audience attention and make
them on the edge of their seats with entertaining scene and
well captured location.
10. Length
The length of my documentary will approximately 5
minute. The reason for this is that short
documentary are made professional. Also longer
than 5 minutes it becomes boring to watch and
audience would like it.
11. Distribution
I will distribute my documentary in BBC Three channel
because they engage with similar Subjects and issues that
matter to young people age 16-19 both male and female
which will be a benefit for my documentary.
12. Idea 2
1. Why cricket is a game of mixed ethnicities at a pro and semi pro level but
in some schools level it’s been segregated?
I will focus on the idea that cricket as a sport is still quite segregated- with the
focus on chestnut school as an example
Look at the history of the sport and race referring to the fire of Babylon.
Look at the English cricket team.
Ravi bopara
Samit Patel
It is not just ethnicity but religion as well

presentational style to audience.
18. Purpose
To investigate the issue of why cricket is a game of mixed
ethnicities at a pro and semi pro level but in some
schools level it’s been segregated?
With regards to international sport, otherwise it will be

Sport should be an encouraging game.
For example if you look at the fire of Babylon documentary
it shows clearly that it there is still segregation between
white Australian and black west Indies.
19. Distribution
I am going to distribute my documentary in BBC ONE as
it is more of sport channel to audience and provides

the law enforcement system try to tackle the problem.
Now a day’s young people and ‘knife’ and ‘gun crime’ are at the front
of public attention and an almost regular focus of the media and policy
makers in this country. I will be looking to research how these two

lead teenagers into it.

looking at there ranks according to their statistical strength. Also the British Crime Survey
states that the level of knife and gun crimes these age people do has remained established
In recent years. Official statistics do not offer a complete picture of gun and knife crime
because much of it – especially violence between criminals, and offences by children under
16 – goes unreported.
My secondary target audience will parents because official figures show most young people
under 16 are killed by their parents. In 2007/08, 62% of all homicide victims under 16 were
killed by their parents, an increase from 51% in 2006/07.
