6. What do I do next?
âą Iâve got a topic: images of the death of GaddaïŹ. Now I need to ïŹgure out an
argument. Iâll then need to do a lot of research.
âą It helps to ask some questions to guide research. For example:
âą Where were the images of GaddaïŹâs death ïŹrst shown?
âą How did this compare to, say, the death of Saddam Hussein or Osama Bin
Laden?
âą How does the death of GaddaïŹ compare to the arguments than Sontag
made?
âą Who took these pictures?
âą Then, I can start doing some research.

7. Beginning the research:
âą Wikipedia is a ïŹne place to start, but it doesnât count toward your sources.
Check the sources cited at the bottom of the Wikipedia entry, and track those
down.
âą Remember--you canât Google your way to a paper. Youâll have to use the
library resources to ïŹnd the kinds of detailed, comprehensive, and
authoritative evidence youâll need.
âą Incorporate Sontag/Berger/Barthes early on. Consider doing more research
on their ideas as well.
