The document summarizes audience feedback from focus groups about a music video. It discusses:
- The audience enjoyed the music video overall, particularly praising the lead singer's acting and lip syncing. They also liked the narrative storytelling, which is uncommon for indie pop videos.
- Areas for improvement included some out-of-sync lip syncing and could have used a real band for more realistic acting.
- Viewers correctly identified the genre as indie pop, showing the video achieved its goal of representing that genre while adding some non-conventional elements.
- The audience felt the music video, digital album, and advertisement all tied together visually through a consistent cartoon-inspired style of editing and

feedback we received from 3 groups of people. To keep
the answers from being so similar, I asked a wide
variety of people to get a range of answers and to see
the opinions of different people.
3. Question 1
After watching the music video all the way through, the first question I
asked the audience is if they enjoyed the music video or not. From
this question, I was able to see that all of the people we asked
seemed to enjoy the music video. Our audience like a different array
of music, with them liking the music video, it means challenging the
common conventions of our genre paid off well by adding different
types of genre into our video.
We then asked them why they liked it, I found out they particularly
enjoyed the acting of the main singer and the lip syncing (editing).
One of my main focuses when making the video was to try and make
Darren’s lip syncing perfect with the song which we obviously
achieved. Another thing our audience seemed to like was the
narrative of the song. Usually, indie pop music videos don’t really
come with a genre but we realized most mainstream songs come with
a story which we decided to include.
4. Question 2
After finding out what the audience liked about our music video,
we then asked what could be improved about it. The first group
replied with saying that some of the lip syncing was out of sync
which I completely agree with. Once I uploaded it to YouTube,
some of the audio was a bit slow which therefore caused some
of the lip syncing to be about time. The second group
surprisingly couldn’t think of any improvements for the video
which can only be a good sign! The third group picked up on
the acting of the band in the video and discussed how getting a
proper band may have been a better option to make the acting
a little more realistic.
5. Question 3
We then went on to see if the audience could recognize
what genre the music video was from. Surprisingly, only
one person said the wrong genre. Everyone else included
the words ‘indie’ with a range of ‘pop’ and ‘rock’. This
meant we achieved making our music video revolving
around the indie pop genre. Although we did challenge
the common conventions, we didn’t want to challenge
them too much or else people wouldn’t recognize what
the genre actually was. This means all of our audience
research and looking through YouTube videos to gain
ideas for our music video worked a treat.
6. Question 4
We then went onto showing the audience print outs of the
Digipak and advert and asked them if they all link together. All
of our audience seemed to have agreed that the ancillary texts
tied together with the music video. This was due to the editing
of the Digipak and advert, they were both edited in the same
way to give a cartoon effect. This made the two pieces of
ancillary text look rather similar. The first group noted that the
ancillary text looked rather indie with the mise-en-scene, with
the band looking into the distance and the costume the band
were wearing. Once again, our ancillary text showed to be
successful with our audience. The costume we used in the
music video was a very similar style to the ones we wore in our
Digipak and advert (indie) which made everything link together.
Whether this was due to the fact of the lack of people we asked
or whether this feedback is true I do not know.
7. Question 5
The last question we went onto asking was whether or not
our audience would actually listen to The Allnighters again
(the band). Each person said they would definitely listen to
the Allnighters again and one group even went on to saying
that they would pay to watch the band live, buy merchandise
etc. Although, there was one exception who said that they
wouldn’t listen to the band again which is completely fair,
everyone has their own personal taste in music. I didn’t
expect someone who wouldn’t normally listen to this type of
music to have completely change their opinions on the
matter. Asking this question made us realize that everything
we produced made the band look professional and like a
proper boy band!
