Picture Analysis
1. We believe the people in the first picture are housewives. They are cooking. You can
see one lady mixing and others using frying pans on the stove. We think the
photographer was trying to convey is that the kitchen is a woman’s place. It shows how
much times have changed. This is what all women did. There were no questions about
it. Women stayed home, cooked, cleaned, and took care of the kids. This photograph
raises a few questions. What are they making all the food for, is the woman in pants in
authority, how did we get where we are today from that point. You could look up the
picture on an academic website to get the information on what the photographer meant by
it. Based on the old wood stove and the old milk jugs we believe this picture was taken
back in the 1930’s. Our caption is just another day’s work while the husbands work the
factory. One thing you can infer is they are cooking. A second is that it happened back
during the first or second World War. Then a third is that everyone in the picture is
working together.
2. The photo features Hitler and a Hitler Youth in a crowd. Hitler is recruiting in this picture
to raise the blue eyed blonde boy to be a Nazi. He is conversing with the small boy in this
picture is why we believe this. We think the photographer was trying to convey that
people didn’t always realize how evil Hitler was. They thought he was doing what was
best for their nation. This photograph was important to history because it shows what
Hitler felt was the perfect human being. It shows his goals and why the Nazis fought. It
raises the question of what were Hitler’s true intentions. The women in the background
seem very happy to see him there. Our caption is Hitler trying to build his regime. Look

thing you can infer is that this was taken during Hitler’s reign. A second is that the little
boy is his idea of the perfect person. Then a third thing you can infer is he had the

3. The people in the photograph are freedom fighters and police men. The situation is a
segregation riot during the civil rights movement. All the black people are on one side
and the one that has crossed sides is being bitten by a dog. The photographer was
probably trying to convey the reality of the situation in the south during the civil rights
movement. It is important to history because it shows how segregated we used to be and
police brutality. It poses questions about why nobody is helping the guy who is being

is the African American being hung by the statue of liberty. There is a rope hanging from
the torch of the statue that the African American is hanging from. The photographer is
trying to convey the relationship between America as a whole and African Americans.
The photograph is important to history because it shows how racism was and still is a
huge part of our country. A question that is raised is this how African Americans feel
they are viewed by others. Our caption is minorities in America. You could look up civil
right information to find out more about this photo. One thing you can infer that the
photo is demeaning to black people. A second thing is that the statue of liberty represents
America. Then a third thing you can infer is that the African American being hung
represents all black people.
5. The people in the photo are immigrants on the boat ride to New York. You can tell by
the way they are dressed and looking at the statue of liberty. Their situation is they are
getting ready to approach Ellis Isle. You can see them pointing and approaching in the
picture. The photographer is trying to convey how Americans got here to start a new life.
It is important to history because it is how America was formed. Everyone had to come
over at some point. This photograph raises the question where are these people from and
where are they going from New York. It also raises the question why did they make the

situation in the picture is new soldiers going through inspection and physicals. You can
see the doctor examining their eyes. The photographer was trying to convey military
protocol before being shipped off to basic or war. The photograph is important to history
because it’s an insight to old military procedures. It raises the question of why is there
