38. Things I wish I knew on my first day of high
school:
● SENIORS (or any upperclassmen) ARE NOT
SCARY! :)
● Don’t over think everything you do!
● Plan to attend tryouts. Makes a huge
difference - you meet so many people and
just try something new :)
● Don’t cut lunch line (HAHAHA)
39. High school myths that are totally untrue (What was your
perception of HS when you were in middle school? What about that
turned out to be false):
● People are mean to you - people are actually very nice :)
● The teachers are really strict and serious - they’re actually
really chill
● Upperclassmen are scary (they’re really not)
● It’s such a big change from middle school- Yes it’s different, but
it’s really not that hard to make the adjustment.
40. Practical tips for your first few days in high school:
● Know where your classes are (floors, room numbers, left/right wing) - try to
have a tour during the orientation day once you get your schedule :)
● Have all the essentials - notebook, pen, laptop; your teachers will usually tell
you in class the specifics
● Have your ID handy at all times (for printing and borrowing textbooks)
● GO TO CLUB EXPO!!!!
● Keep everything organised!!!
● Always check your email for updates or announcements
● Get yourself involved in the various activities and clubs you are interested in
● Try new things!! Freshman year is the best time to do so :)
● Talk to teachers if you get confused
● ASK QUESTIONS!!! (even if you have to ask random strangers - it’s okay bc
everyone has [probably] had the same experience as you)
41. Funny anecdotes/memorable experiences in high
school so far:
● BOB is really fun (both Battle of the Bearcats and
Battle of the Bands)
● iCare!
● Geography field trip
● Sports teams (& the friends you make!)
● Any extra curriculars (I joined the play and it was
so fun!!)
42. What’s in highschool/happens in high school that doesn’t happen in middle
school?
● You meet and make lots of new friends! Even with some of the older kids.
● There are so many more opportunities to join clubs! Don’t miss out!
● You get more independence and freedom in choosing what you want to do -
but at the same time, with great power comes great responsibility
● You get closer with the upperclassmen and make friends with people
older/younger than you
● You start to think about your future, what jobs you want to do, what colleges
you might want to apply to
● You get more of a choice in the direction you want your school life and
potentially the rest of your life to go. ex. you take the responsibility of going
to meetings and doing things in your own time
43. Senior tips for incoming high schoolers:
● Enjoy everything, it goes by really fast!!!
● Don’t think about the IB until sophomore year
please
● Try everything you wanna try (sports, the play, etc)
- don’t be scared!
● Your teachers care about you more than you think
:)
● Attend College Talks
