2. Introduction…
Your hair performs three functions – it
protects you, regulates your temperature and
acts as adornment.
3. Superfluous Hair Growth
Superfluous hair growth is a general term.
Females with low levels of female hormones and
high levels of male hormones can develop
superfluous hair growth.
However, superfluous hair is a matter of opinion and
cultural preferences…..only the client can judge what
is excessive for him or her.
Superfluous Hair Growth = Unwanted Hair!!!
4. Hirsutism
Usually in females only
Growth of hair found on the face and body which is
the characteristics of masculinity – male pattern
hair growth
Caused by an over production of the male hormone
Androgen in the blood
Follicles are stimulated to grow hair and the vellus
and terminal hairs grow larger in diameter making
them thicker and stronger.
Can be treated with Electrolysis!
7. Hirsutism
The diagram shows
where hirstusim usually
occurs.
Notice this is where hair
is more dominant in
males.
8. Hypertrichosis
Occurs in both men and women
A general overgrowth of terminal hair
affecting the entire surface of the body
It is not hormonal dependent
Results from ethnic or genetic backgrounds
Known as werewolf syndrome in severe
cases
Is not usually treated with Electrolysis due
to the density of growth!
