In life, there are two types of people: those who do the right thing and those who don't. In the play
Macbeth, by Shakespeare, the main character Macbeth is given a prophecy by three witches that
says he will become king; however, there is no descending line of kings of his own blood. With the
knowledge of the Witches' prophecy,Macbeth's ambition, and manipulation from his wife, Lady

King Duncan In Shakespeare's play 'Macbeth'.
The main character in the play, Macbeth, murders King Duncan. However,
I feel that he was not totally to blame. I believe that both Lady
Macbeth and the three witches played a part in his death and this should not be overlooked.
The three witches are all sisters. We first meet the witches in the very first scene of the play when

As a virgin to The Shakespeare Theatre, I was pleasantly surprised when my recent encounter with
Macbeth was a stimulating and enjoyable excursion. The two and a half hours I had predicted to be
less than enchanting were filled with symbolism, and an overall attitude towards the Shakespeare
classic that I had never contemplated before.
Upon entering the theatre, the audience was confronted with a stark stage, boasting only a large
hollow cube with a single, leafless tree standing alone within it. The stark set was relatively
consistent throughout the play, allowing the audience to focus on the characters. Another effective

Another interesting choice Kahn made was the staging of Lady Macbeth's death as a focus in the
second act. Normally only hinted at in the final scene, Kahn chose to portray Lady Macbeth's brutal
suicide outright, instead of just leaving it up to the audience to infer.
Notable performances from supporting actors were given by the three witches, and the young
boy who took on the role of Fleance (Samuel Bednar Schachter). The witches, whose screeches
and swaggers truly transformed them into creatures not of this earth, were enhanced by the
shadows and lighting used during their scenes, as well as the strobe light in the opening of the
play. The role of Fleance, more commonly interpreted as a young man, was played remarkably
well by a boy no older than twelve. His initial entrance alone was enough to start the wheels

play 'Macbeth' Shakespeare applies the imagery of clothing, darkness and blood. Each detail is his

In the play, phrases of fear escape from her lips even in her sleep. She believes darkness to be the
place of torment. Within the whole drama, the sun seems to shine only twice. Firstly, in the
beautiful but in the passages when Duncan sees the swallows flirting round the castle of death.
Another time, when the avenging army gathers near Dunsanane. Therefore, the reader can
conclude that Shakespeare portrays darkness to establish the evil parts of the play; whereas, the
viewer employs daylight to define victory or goodness in the play. The Viewers have known
blood to all of us to represent life, death and often injury. Blood is an essential part of life and
without blood, we could not live. This is known to everyone, and because of this, when
Shakespeare uses the imagery of blood to represent treason, guilt, murder and death. The audience
have easily understands it and fits it in perfectly with the ideas we have of blood. Blood is the
most prominent and seems to be the most important imagery of Shakespeare's play 'Macbeth'.
Shakespeare mentions the word blood, or different forms of it often in the play. Perhaps the best
way to describe how the image of blood changes throughout the play, by following the character
changes in Macbeth. First, he is a brave honoured soldier, but as the play progresses, he becomes
identified withe death and bloodshed, along with showing his guilt in different forms. The first

Shakespeare's Act IV of Macbeth is a short act, yet he manages to introduce suspense, a vivid
turning point, and key character developments. Every line of this act is significant, adding another
layer to the plot in some way, for example, the doctor's one verse introduces King Edward's ability
to heal "wretched souls" (IV.III.161) in contrast toMacBeth. The succinctness of Shakespeare's
introduction to the foil of Macbeth and Edward's kingship, the true evil that has gained control of
Macbeth's mind, and the foreshadowing that occurs, are what make this act critically stellar. The
concept of kingship is a new to the play in this act, and focuses around the ideals of what makes a
good kinship, like Edward's, and a bad one, like Macbeth's. Malcolm says "Gracious England hath

The apparitions which the witches allow Macbeth to see tell him what is going to happen in the
future. "Macbeth shall never vanquished be until the Great Birnam Wood to high Dunsinane Hill
shall come against him," (IV.I.105). This builds suspense because it is a hyperbole implying that
Macbeth can only be vanquished if something so absurd happens, yet, the readers get a glimpse into
his downfall. The other two apparitions also leave the audience questioning what will happen with
the prophecy. The bloody child brings into mind Lady Macbeth as she is the only woman in the plot,
and the ghost of Banquo at the end of the eight Kings allows for speculation of who will hold the
throne next. The other area of suspense is the last line of Act IV. Malcolm says "The night is long

The main character Macbeth is a puppet controlled by the words coming from the three witches and
Lady Macbeth. The four troublemakers provide Macbeth with the motivation and confidence he
