Need for Development
Deuel County with the formation of DADi has accepted the all-important responsibility
for our own development. We have grown an increasingly strong business
development assistance program. Progress is being realized. But more must be done
if Deuel County is to address the future of population growth.

7. One example, a business this year had a substantial insurance cost tagged
on to them because of a misunderstanding. It would have cost them
possibly even the business had the misunderstanding not been rectified. It
was genuinely a huge problem for them and a community. DADi
immediately got involved and soon, through networking resources a near
disaster was rectified and the problem taken care of.
There are everyday problems and needs that DADi is available to help when asked.

10. WildLife Estates
The Wildlife Estates Infrastructure was completed in November of 2016. Lots for twin
homes and single family units are now available for sale.
A Wildlife Estates Committee has been formed. A television commercial will advertise
Wildlife Estates to the public through ICAN. A grant from the Deuel County Community
Foundation made this possible to help with advertising. A separate Deuel Area Industrial
Development Fund assures development money into the future for industrial or housing
projects in the county.
Other County Housing/Industrial News: Gate City Development Association, Inc. in Gary, SD has
lots available as well for housing/industry in Gary. A lot has been sold to one of their board members. A
new structure for Dynotec, Industries was to begin by end of summer 2016. New heating and lighting
have been installed in the old converter building owned by Tom Griffith and Tom Lundquist, owner of
Dynotec. He was to be in the building by late summer and be ready to begin in the Spring of 2017 until
the new building is built and finished.

13. Gifts of Grain and Livestock
Guidelines for Donating Grain:
The producer should consult with his or her tax advisor to determine
whether this gift is appropriate to their tax situation.
Specific steps are required by the IRS to ensure intended tax benefits.
The gift must be from unsold grain inventory – there can be no prior sale or
pricing commitment.
The grain must be physically delivered farm commodities.
The grain cannot have a lien against it. If it does, a lien waiver from the
lender is required.
The producer should call Deuel Area Development to confirm the details
and complete a gift letter prior to delivering the grain.
We will communicate directly with the grain elevator to give instructions to
sell the grain and disburse the proceeds.
14. Gifts of Grain and LivestockGifts of Grain and Livestock
Tax Savings:
For many cash basis producers, significant tax savings can be achieved by
donating crops or livestock directly to DADi.
The producer will not realize taxable income from a sale, thus minimizing
taxes.
The producer is still able to deduct the entire cost of production on Schedule
F.
Depending on the producer’s specific circumstances, savings may be
realized on federal and state income tax and self-employment tax.
