AT&T EXPANDS MOBILE BROADBAND CAPACITY AND COVERAGE
IN LORAIN COUNTY
Additional Spectrum Expected to Improve Connectivity and Performance of Mobile Broadband
Data and Voice Connectivity
LORAIN, Ohio, Feb. 7, 2012 — As part of its continuing network investment to upport growing demand
for advanced mobile devices and applications, AT&T* today announced the activation of a new mobile
broadband cell site in Avon that will enhance coverage for area residents and businesses. With mobile
broadband speeds, AT&T customers can surf the Web, download files faster, and enjoy the very latest
interactive mobile applications.
The new cell site is one part of AT&T’s ongoing efforts to drive investment and innovation to deliver the
nation’s best, most advanced mobile broadband experience for customers. With the nation’s fastest
mobile broadband network, AT&T provides accelerated mobile data speeds and simultaneous voice
and data capabilities.
―The need for enhanced wireless coverage continues to increase as more and more businesses rely on
mobile devices to stay connected with their customers,‖ said State Senator Gayle Manning. ―In a
competitive environment where speed and reliability are critical, it’s great to see companies like AT&T
investing in their customer experience here in Ohio and enabling other companies to grow their
operations through the use of wireless technology.‖
In addition, AT&T announced the completion of a network enhancement to add new layers of
frequency, also known as ―carriers,‖ to 20 cell sites in Avon, Avon Lake, Grafton, Lorain, North
2. Ridgeville, Oberlin, Sheffield Lake and Vermilion to more efficiently manage available spectrum and
increase mobile broadband capacity. The expansion helps manage ever-growing demand for mobile
broadband services by allocating more network resources for AT&T’s mobile broadband network.
CNN Money recently recognized AT&T for enhancing its wireless network. Last year, AT&T completed
150,000 network enhancements across the country, more than triple the year before, giving customers
more capacity and faster speeds. AT&T invested more than $1.4 billion in its Ohio wireless and wireline
networks from 2009 through 2011.

AT&T Ohio state president, Tom Pelto, said his company’s local investment creates many advantages
for the people of Ohio. ―A recent study by the NDN think tank found that innovation has driven
continued investments to upgrade the wireless broadband infrastructure in America, including
transitions from 2G to 3G and now from 3G to 4G,‖ said Pelto. ―The world is going wireless, and this
technology is enabling, empowering, enriching and enhancing lives at work, at play and everywhere in
between. This investment has spurred significant new job creation and growth across all sectors of the
economy and has fostered employment for U.S. workers.‖

sign of AT&T's ongoing commitment to making new and better technologies available to drive growth
and vibrancy in our communities, which will be very important to consumers in Lorain County.‖
3. AT&T’s mobile broadband network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of
technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most widely used wireless network platforms in the
world. AT&T has the broadest international coverage of any U.S. wireless provider, providing access to
voice service in more than 225 countries and data service in more than 200 countries. AT&T also offers
voice and data roaming coverage on more than 135 major cruise ships, as well as mobile broadband
services in more than 130 countries.
AT&T also operates the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network** with nearly 30,000 hotspots in the U.S. and
provides access to nearly 190,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T
smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi
usage doesn’t count against customers’ monthly wireless data plans.
