Controlling Idea Feedback/Reminders
• START and END with the controlling idea!
• Refer to the passages using title and author (when provided)
• Don’t forget a concluding sentence!
• Use detail.
• Talk about each passage individually, explaining how each one
supports the controlling idea.
• Pull evidence from the text.
• Introduce quotes
• Use lit. terms when you can.
• Write in third person point of view (a reader, they, a person)!
• Connect evidence to your topic sentence/controlling idea.
Lit. Analysis Feedback/Reminders
• Use the author’s last name (not his/her first
name)!
• Be sure to explain how the author uses the
technique (for what purposes).
• Use detail!
• Pull evidence from the text (use quotes!).
• Punctuate titles correctly!
