3. ABN Amro roots: 1824
NHM: Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij
De N.V. Nederlandsche Handel-Maatschappij werd op initiatief van koning
Willem I in Den Haag opgericht op dinsdag 9 maart 1824
welvaart".
Mission statement: “NHM is to operate as a lever to stimulate
and facilitate national wealth’

9. ‘Markets’ a more mature alternative now next to Hierarchy
Clay Shirky: “Since we have grown up with hierarchical institutions
as models for organizational structure, it’s hard to visualize another
model. But this is where social media has come in. The development
of technological features such as #hashtags has allowed people with
like interests to find each other and organize around ideas
outside a traditional institutional model.
(…) So we have an old way of viewing the organization of people
(thesis: hierarchical institutions). Now there’s a new way of looking
at things (antithesis: unmanaged cooperative collaboration).
We (as a society) are still trying to figure out how to
navigate this (synthesis) to produce results.

14. Servant leadership, managing professionals according to western
principles?
As evident in the above figure, the Western need for self-actualization is replaced in the
Asian context by the needs of status, admiration and affiliation. Autonomy and
independence are not as important, or at the very least do not have the same connotations as in
the West, which means marketers must use very different brand appeals and images to draw out
similar emotions from an Asian consumer.
15. Level 5 servant leadership: global goal?

miljoen.
In 2013
zorgen.

18. What’s coming
Sam Anderson writes in New York magazine that,
“The brain is designed to change based on experience, a feature called
neuroplasticity. London taxi drivers, for instance, have enlarged hippocampi, a
neural reward for paying attention to the tangle of the city's streets. As we
become more skilled at the 21st-century task [of moving through bits of
information quickly] the wiring of the brain will inevitably change to deal more
efficiently with more information. Neuroscientist Gary Small speculates that the
human brain might be changing faster today than it has since the prehistoric
discovery of tools.”

sedimented social systems. Zuboff described with uncanny
precision hierarchy of organisations and the constraints of power
but also our inability to promote new forms of sociality and

40. Uitzenden in VS versus Nederland

Beiden op basis van uitzendvolume
41. Uitzendgroei ten koste van werknemer (NL vs. VS)
Sinds 2e helft 2009:
• Beperkt herstel NL uitzendindex gevolg door daling
• Sterk (en doorzettend) herstel VS uitzendindex
• Verschil wordt veroorzaakt door (in VS):
− verschuiving van fulltime naar part-time
− verschuiving van middle wage naar low wage
− verschuiving van direct naar intermediair
Erosie arbeidspositie in VS leidt tot groei uitzenders (“recessieprofiteurs”)
42. Herstel in VS? Fictie!
• Werkloosheid hardnekkig hoog
• Banenverlies en daaropvolgende banengroei laat wholesale shift
naar lager betaalde banen zien
• Arbeidsparticipatie daalt (discouraged worker syndrome)
• Armoede stijgt

Specifically, we examine employment trends in 366 detailed occupations. We formed three equal groups, each representing a third of U.S. employment in 2008: lower-wage occupations with median hourly wages from $7.69 to $13.83; mid-wage occupations with median hourly wages from $13.84 to $21.13; and higher-wage occupations with median hourly wages from $21.14 to $54.55 (all in 2012 dollars). We then tracked net employment changes in these three groups over time, as shown in Figure 1. The red bars show net losses in employment during the recession (2008 Q1 to 2010 Q1). The orange bars show net growth in employment during the recovery (2010 Q1 to 2012 Q1). 1 The pattern is striking. During the Great Recession, employment losses occurred across the board, but were concentrated in mid-wage occupations. By contrast, in the recovery to date, employment growth has been concentrated in lower-wage occupations, which grew 2.7 times as fast as mid-wage and higher-wage occupations:2 Lower-wage occupations constituted 21 percent of recession job losses, but fully 58 percent of recovery growth. Mid-wage occupations constituted 60 percent of recession job losses, but only 22 percent of recovery growth. Higher-wage occupations constituted 19 percent of recession job losses, and 20 percent of recovery growth.
