ABOUT
The	CIMA	Global	Business	Challenge	(GBC)	is	a	unique	global	
business	competition	designed	to	discover	and	nurture	future	
business	leaders.	Its	success	has	made	it	one	of	CIMA’s	annual	
fl	agship	events.	The	competition,	which	is	in	its	fi	fth	year,	is	
open	to	all	students	studying	for	their	fi	rst	degree.	In	2012,	85%	
of	entrants	were	interested	in	a	career	in	business	management,	
fi	nance	or	accounting	(GBC	2012	survey	of	entrants).

THE COMPETITION STRUCTURE
	The competition is based on a previous Test of
Professional Competency in Management Accounting
case study (the final exam in the CIMA qualification)
which is adapted to suit undergraduate level. 	
All competition material is developed specifically
for the GBC. Participants write a business report
based on the given scenario. Shortlisted teams
then progress to the local final, where they
will present their report to a panel of local
business leaders.The winning team will
represent their country/region at the
global final and compete to become
global champion.
THE GLOBAL FINAL
The	GBC	global	fi	nal	is	the	highlight	of	the	event	every	year.	The	global	
fi	nalists	get	the	opportunity	to	visit	the	host	country,	and	network	
with	peers	and	high	profi	le	employers	from	multinational	companies.	
Singapore	had	the	honour	to	host	
the	global	fi	nal	in	2009,	Malaysia	
in	2010,	China	in	2011	and	Sri	
Lanka	in	2012.	In	2013	the	global	
fi	nal	will	be	held	in	South	Africa	
and	judged	by	a	panel	of	global	
business	leaders.
