If you only use it for querying and exporting to Excel, that’s all it will
ever be

Walk around one of our R&D shops, you’ll see us

Miner, etc. build their own SQL Developer extensions to make their
products more accessible to the SQL Developer user
And large parts of the Database and Cloud offerings too
